Our prime purpose in life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them. - Dalai Lama
I was on my way home yesterday from work, and stuck in traffic. A jeep was pulled up next to my cab, and a lady and her friend were in it, cackling happily, when a beggarly looking kid walked up to her open window, and begged the lady for some money to eat.
This lady and her friend engaged the kid in a long, insulting, conversation, of her parents, siblings, and handiwork, whilst laughing and mocking her the whole time. And when they were done, barked at the kid to get out. The scared, and now, crying kid scampered away.
Now, I know that people who beg, especially on Port Harcourt roads, can be really annoying. But, was it really necessary to do that? Was it necessary to humiliate the kid, and remind her of just how poor and helpless she is? Absolutely not, and very unacceptable. If you can't help people , at least don't hurt them.
