Many cities celebrate carnival, often on the "right" date (40 days before Easter), like Venezia, the cradle of carnival festivals, cities in the South of the Netherlands, or in South Spain. Many others do it on a random date (like London's Notting Hill Carnival). While I haven't been to them all, I'm sure nothing compares to Rio Carnival (ok, maybe Bahia's). Carnival celebrations in Rio was last week, surmounted by controversy because the official parades were postponed to April and the popular street carnival was canceled - or was it? Unfortunately I wasn't there, so I'm sharing a photograph from my friends, my wife and me in a Carnival Sunday morning back in 2019 - it feels so long ago! And I'm preparing a long post about way I think Rio Carnival is the best, which I'm sharing this weekend.
