Overview
The new Weekly ruleset Challenge is an amazing twist that I am enjoying so far and I hope there will be twists like that in the future to keep this Challenge's fresh. ๐
This week the ruleset is the Going the Distance, which means that only the ranged attack monsters are available to play the rest of the monsters, such as the melee or magic are banned.
It is worth to consider including units with the Close Range and Return Fire abilities in your lineup in order to have a huge advantage over your opponent. ๐
The upcoming Battle ruleset
| Ruleset | Description |
|---|---|
| Close Range | Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles. |
| Rise of the Commons | Only Common and Rare Monsters may be used in battles. |
| Going the Distance | Only units with ranged attacks may be used. |
The battle had a 29 mana cap, which is not a lot and I need to think twice what I am going to bring. It is always a safe bet to choose Kelya, because he gives one armor to all of his monsters, which will block an incoming melee or ranged attack.
The Life Splinter might be a good choice as well, but you need to protect his weak backline monsters. The Dragon Splinter is way to expensive for this mana cap even if you are using only one monster from their deck, which will cost a minimum of 8 mana. ๐
The Close Range ruleset is an amazing combination with the Going the Distance ruleset, because all the ranged monster will be able to attack from the first position as well. ๐
My lineup
| Kelya is one of my favorite Summoner, because for only 4 mana he has two abilities, which will give +1 armor and speed to all of his friendly monsters. The armor is more important, because even one piece can block a full melee or ranged attack. ๐ | |
| The Venari Marksrat is just a buffer, because he has the Martyr ability, which means that he will increase all the stats of the monsters next to him when he dies. ๐ | |
| The Tower Griffin is another ranged monster and he has an absolutely crazy speed thanks to Kelya. I used him as my main tank, because of that and his Flying ability, so he will receive another +25% cahnce to evade any melee or ranged attack. The Protect ability will give +2 armor to all of his fellow monsters. ๐ | |
| The Angelic Mandarin is a great support monster, because he will use his Triage ability to heal a monster in the backline who had the most damage in a turn. ๐ | |
| The Merdhampir is an also good damage dealer, becuse he has the Life Leech and the Cripple ability, so he will increase his own health with every damage he is doing and on the other hand he will reduce his target maximum health as well by one with every hit. ๐ค | |
| The Supply Runner is another great monster especially, because of his ability of Switfness. This ability will give +1 speed to all of his friendly monsters and it is an excellent combination with Kelya. ๐ | |
| I used the Kulu Swimhunter in the last position of my team, because he has the most amount of damage and without any Sneak monster he will be the last to die in this battle, so I can utilise his damage output a lot. ๐ |
The Battle

My opponent had a similar idea like me, but with a bit different strategy using a bit different monsters on different places, so let's see who positioned their monsters better. ๐
I had 4 monster with the speed of six, so my team was generally quicker than his, so in the first round we were the one who killed the first monster, which was his Angelic Mandarin. I would say sadly I lost my Venari Marksrat, but truth to be told that was my main goal, so he will increase the stats of my real tank of the Tower Griffin.
In the second round out of his four attacks only one made a hit on my Tower Griffin, which was amazing and even thought his Merdhampir had the same speed like my Tower Griffin he didn't have the Flying ability, which makes him to die quicker than my tank. ๐
In the third round I eventually lost my Tower Griffin, but we had a slight advantage trading monsters, because his Xenith Archer also died in return.
The Repair ability on his Swamp Spitter was a good idea, but it was too late to change the outcome of the battle. ๐ค
Battle Result
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
My strategy was worked, because my main idea was to build a super quick team to try to dodge as much attack as possible and in the meantime use my rangers to do as much as damage possible in order to secure the win for me.
next time I would also try to use the Swamp Spitter in my team, because his Repair ability could make a huge difference in the battle. ๐
