Overview
The new Weekly ruleset Challenge is an amazing twist that I am enjoying so far and I hope there will be twists like that in the future to keep this Challenge's fresh. ๐
This week the ruleset is the Back to Basics, which means that all units lose all abilities for this battle, but the Summoner effects are still active. ๐
Back row monsters are safe from enemy's Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks. The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks as melee attacks loose their ability to hit outside of the first position. Select monsters with high speed and choose a summoner that increases damage or defense against Magic or Ranged attacks. Lining up monsters in ascending order of their health is the way to go. ๐ช
The upcoming Battle ruleset
| Ruleset | Description |
|---|---|
| Aim True | Melee and Ranged attacks always hit their target. |
| Silenced Summoners | Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities. |
| Back to Basics | Monsters lose all abilities. |
The mana cap for my next battle was 99 and only the Earth Splinter was banned, so I could literally use any monster and Summoner I wanted, which was my all time favirite gameplay. The only issue is that none of the monsters and Summoners has any abilities and effect, so I have to consider very carefully what monsters to choose and which order I am going to use them.
I can not even try to use some tactic and take advantage of the speed differences the monsters usually have, because the Aim True ruleset will eliminate the fact that monsters can miss each other. ๐
My lineup
| I used Quix the Devious for this battle, because I wanted to take advantage one of the best and most expensive monster in the game, which is the Chaos Dragon. Unfortunately there will be no abilities on my Summoner, so I just picked the highest level one. ๐ | |
| Tusk the Wide is not so expensive with his 6 mana cost, but his main advantage is that he has a lot of health, which comes handy to withstand the enemy attacks. ๐ | |
| Grum Flameblade is an excellent 11 mana monster, because he has a lot of health and armor, which is amazing to tank the enemy monsters. He has quite a lot of attack damage as well and his weakness will be his low speed, but in this battle it doesn't matter, because he will hit his targets 100%. ๐ช | |
| The Lava Launcher is a 9 mana ranged attack monster, who has everything that a tank ever wanted! High speed, damage and **armor. Normally he is quite expensive, but he is able to attack from the back, so he is amazing. ๐ | |
| The Chaos Dragon is the main spine of my team, because he has a lot of health and damage. His damage is magic, so he will ignore the enemy armors easily! Sadly he doesn't have the Blast damage in this battle, but he is still a "beast" in this battle ... sorrry a dragon! ๐ | |
| The Djinn Inferni doesn't really cost a lot of mana, but I wanted a monster with high magic damage to support my Chaos Dragon and kill the enemy armored units quickly. Luckily there is no Snipe or Sneak abilities, so he is pretty safe back in my lineup to deal as much as damage as possible. ๐ | |
| The Djinn Apprentice role is the exact same as the Inferni, which means that he is cheaper and also a bit weaker, but he is essential to deal magic damage against my opponent monsters. ๐ค |
The Battle

My opponent brought Kelya Frendul who cost only 4 mana, but it is irrevelant in this battle, because he will give no other abilities or stats for his monsters. I guess he just wanted to use the big magic attack monsters from the Water Splinter. ๐
I was right about my opponent using high armor monster at his front, so my magic attack monsters killed their Diemonshark in the seventh round out of 12 and sadly I also lost my Tusk the Wide as well. Luckily my Lava Launcher and Grum came afterwards and they did a significant damage on their Coastal Sentry. ๐
The second round started killing their Sentry and my team continued damaging and killing their Djinn Oshannus as well. My Grum was still standing at around 50% of his capacity.
My opponent Nerissa was unable to block my 10 magic damage combo and she also died in the third round! After that it was only their two ranged attack monster left in their team, which was quite easy to finish them off and win this battle. ๐ค

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
My strategy was to deal as much as damage possible in the shortest amount of time and take advantage of my huge health and armor monsters to sustain a lot of damage. Luckily it worked very well, but I made few big mistakes, because I shouldn't use the Lava Launcher in the third place in my lineup, because if both of my tanks will die he can not attack anymore, because the ruleset took away his Close Range ability. ๐
The second is that I could use a bigger monster on my front instead of the Tusk the Wide for example Arkemis who has more armor and a bit more health. Somehow I forgot about the Back to Basics ruleset and relied some of the abilities on my chosen monsters, but luckily my opponent couldn't take advantage on that! ๐
