I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.
This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Aim True and the way I used it to my (dis)advantage in the Battle I played. ๐
My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the specific ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. ๐
| Melee and Ranged attacks will always hit their target. | ||
| This applies to magic attacks even if the Phase ability is in play. |
This ruleset is one of my favorite one, because it finally removes the randomness of the hit and miss system from the battle. I do not like how the system uses the miss chance calculations, because it is totally unpredictable and doesn't have too much sense.
Many times I had battles where I missed my target 4-5-6 times in a row and the our Speed difference was only 2 or 3, which is like 20%-30%.
Luckily this ruleset will totally ignore this bugged system, because all the monsters will hit their target no matter what! ๐
| Ruleset | Description |
|---|---|
| Aim True | Melee and Ranged attacks always hit their target. |
| Keep Your Distance | Monsters with Melee attack may not be used in battles. |
The mana cap was 38, which is quite good to build a powerful team and to take advantage of the Aim True ruleset. The Keep Your Distance ruleset will eliminate the use of all the Melee attack monsters, so I just need to build some protection against the Ranged and Magic attack monsters.
Luckily the available Splinters for this battle are not particularly strong in Magic creatures and Summoners, so using Ilthain will be my best bet to win this battle. ๐
My lineup and the decision behind it!
Summoner
Ilthain
Ilthain is a Riftwatcher Summoner and after the new Rebellion expansion arrived I had to shift my playstyle a bit from the Untamed Summoners. That is why I have picked Ilthain as my new favorite Life Summoner, because he gives +1 Speed to all of his friendly monsters and the ability to reflect all the incoming Ranged attack back to their atttackers. ๐
Main Tank with Taunt
Iziar
Iziar is one of the new Reward card and such you need a bit of luck here to acquire him. He is quite powerful as he has a lot of Health and very good Speed, but his true power if that he has the Void ability, which will halves all the incoming Magic attack targeting him.
If my opponent chooses to bring a lot of Ranged attacker my Summoner will uses his trick and reflect their damage back to them.
Iziar also has the Taunt ability, so he will soak all the damage from his enemies, just need a way to support him from my team. ๐
Off-Tank and De-buffer
Runemancer Atuat is a Riftwatcher monster and I didn't really used him in the last era. He has +2 Magic attack, which is nice, but his most important ability is the Headwinds, which means that he will decrease the Ranged attack of the enemy monsters by one. ๐
The Slower
The Time Mage as her name suggest is a Magic attack monster, which means that her attack will always hit its target and it will ignore the enemy Armor completely. She also has the Slow ability, which means that she will decrease the Speed of all the enemy monsters by one. ๐
Healer
The Venari Crystalsmith is my all time favorite Healer from the Life deck, because he will heal my Iziar at the front allowing him to sustain a lot of incoming damage. He has +2 Ranged attack as well, which is very good compare as he is "just" a healer. ๐
Main Damage Dealer
The Pelacor Arbalest is my main damage dealer for this battle, because he has +2 Ranged damage, which is multiplied by 2 using his Double Strike ability. This makes him truly the strongest damage dealer in my team.
His only disadvantage is that he is quite weak against the enemy attacks, but luckily all the Melee attack Sneak monsters are banned and the Snipe monsters will target my Iziar, so he is quite safe back there. ๐ค
My opponent brought Conqueror Jacek, because he gives +2 Speed to all of his monsters, which is amazing and the Scattershot ability, which will counter my strategy using the Taunt ability on my Iziar completely. ๐
Jacek also gives the Piercing ability to his monsters, but I do not really have any Armor on my monsters.
In order to win this battle I have to pray ๐ a lot to the RNG gods, becuase I hope his attacks will miss my squishy backline monsters before I could start to kill them.
The first round was pretty good for me, because my opponent attacked the highest Health monsters in my team and only my Venari Crystalsmith took one hit. My team managed to kill two of his monsters in the first round, so at least his Lava Launcher will target my Iziar instead of shooting randomly. ๐
In the second round my luck continoued, because my team killed his strongest monster, which was the Lava Launcher and after that his Firecaller. ๐ช
Finishing up the game killing his last two monster was easy, because the Return Fire ability from my Ilthain made this battle much easier than it would be without it. ๐
