I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.

This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Broken Arrows and the way I used it to my (dis)advantage in the Battle I played. ๐Ÿ˜‡

My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Monsters with ranged attacks cannot be used.image.png
Monsters with 2 types of attack (which include ranged) cannot be used.

A high Health first monster with Void ability is advised, because both Melee and Magic damage is still available. Give your tank a back up with a tank heal support. Using Thorns or Magic Reflect is also very useful in this ruleset. Defend your monsters against either Magic or Melee attacks by using the right summoner and then use monsters abilities to deal with the other attack type. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Broken Arrows ruleset is an interesting one, because it completely eliminates the Ranged attack monsters and such it is much easier to create and counter a team, but more likely the opponent will do the same and the the chance for a mirror match is much higher.

RulesetDescription
Broken ArrowsRanged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.
AimlessAll monsters have the Scattershot ability.
Tis but ScratchesAll monsters have the Cripple ability.

The mana cap was 53 for my next battle, which normally would give a lot of option for me to choose from, but in this fight there was only Fire and Death Splinter and on top of that all the Ranged cards were banned.

I have choosen the Death Splinter, because they have two very good monster for this battle, which is the Harklaw and the Cursed Windeku. My other reason is that Thaddius is removing -1 Magic attack from all the enemy monsters, which will help to reduce the incoming Magic damage. ๐Ÿ˜‡

My lineup and the decision behind it!

Summoner
Thaddius Brood

image.png

In Splinterlands one of the strongest attack form is Magic damage and it is very difficult to fight against it. That is why one of the strongest summoner is Thaddius Brood, because his ability is to remove one Magic damage and one Health from all the enemy monsters.

These abilities makes my opponent creatures significantly weaker and makes Thaddius Brood a solid choice against players using Magic damage teams. ๐Ÿ˜

Main Tank
Cursed Windeku

image.png

The Cursed Windeku is an amazing monster, because he has a very rare ability amongst the other Death monsters, which is the self Heal. He receives it on Level 5, so it is worth renting him on this Level.

He has another ability, which is the Thorn from Level 1 and that makes him a perfect tank in low mana cap battles or if you another solid tank as your off-tank. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Off-Tank
Harklaw

image.png

The Harklaw is one of the best main tank in the whole Splinterlands. He is rock solid and on Level 3 he has a lot of excellent abilities, such as Demoralize (*Reducing enemy melee attack by one), Shield (reducing melee and ranged attack damages) and Immunity. (Which makes this monster immune to negative status effects.)

He is always my first pick without thinking as a tank using a Death Splinter and he is especially good against Tarsa to counter her ability of +1 Melee damage. ๐Ÿ’ช

Stunner
Revealer

image.png

Usually I use the Revealer, because he has the Stun ability, so he has 50% chance to shut down the targeted monster for a full round. Even though this is a good ability personally I do not like the randomness in this game, but for only four mana he is a must have in most of my setup. ๐Ÿค—

Life Leecher and Poisoner
Venari Bonesmith

image.png

The Venari Bonesmith is a life Leecher monster and his most important ability and why I usually use him is the Poison. If the Poison triggers (which is a 50% chance) than every end of the round the target will take 2 poison damage. Even though the ruleset makes him to attack a random enemy target the Life Leech will increase his Health with every damage making him to sustain a lot more incoming damage. ๐Ÿ˜

Sniper Damage Dealer
Magi Necrosi

image.png

The Magi Necrosi is a superb damage dealer within the Death Splinter and his strength is that he is quite cheap costing only 6 mana and damaging 3 Magic damage in every round.

He has Snipe (Targets enemy Monsters with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that are not in the first position.) and Camouflage (This Monster cannot be targeted for attacks unless it's in the first position.) on Level 1, which is very strong, because nobody from the enemy team can attack him directly. Recently the Splinterlands team nerfed this ability, so the Scattershot can hit him now with a random attack.

Usually I rent him on Level 3 to get the extra +1 Magic damage, but on Level 4 he receives the Oppress ability, which does double damage when attacking an enemy that has no attacks.

On his final Level of 6 he will get Stun, which means when a Monster with Stun hits a target, it has a chance to stun the target causing it to skip its next turn. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Blood Lusted Demon
Usut

image.png

Usut starting to become as another favorite monster from the Death Splinter because he has a lot of Health and he uses Magic to damage his enemies. His unique and rare ability is Bloodlust, which makes him to increase all of his stats when he kills an enemy. This ability works indefinitely, which means that he can increase his stats unendlessly or until no more monsters left on the battlefield. He is quite resilient against the Scattershot are able to withstand a lot of incoming damage. ๐Ÿ˜

This battle was total mess, because everyone except the two tank were attackinga random target from the other team and such it was very difficult to predict the outcome of this battle.

My opponent also picked the same Summoner like me and with a pretty similar team, which shows how strong is this team in reality. I had one huge advantage over my opponent and that was the Level difference between our Summoners and his monsters. In a normal battle without the Scattershot ability this would be an easy match, but introducing the randomness into this battle makes it difficult to guess, which team is better.

In the first round my opponent Bonesmith managed to poison my Bonesmith with a lucky shot and I Stunned his Usut in return.

In the second round I poisoned his Bonesmith as well, but unfortunately mine died in that at the end of the round. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

His Harklaw had only one Health for an entire round without anyone attack him and at the end of the third round his Bonesmith joined to mine on their way to hell. ๐Ÿ˜…

In the fourth round the two Revealer died at the same time as well and his Harklaw finally died against my Windeku.

Without a proper tank it was much easier to start killing his monsters and luckily none of the Usut on the battlefield could use their Bloodlust ability, because they could turn the outcome pretty easily if they do. ๐Ÿ˜

This was another nice Victory and thanks a lot for all the RNG gods! ๐Ÿ™
