You can either focus on "how bad your life is" or "how can you improve it".
There is no other way around.
Being born in the wrong part of the world can take away half the opportunities from you.
There are people in one part of the world(silicon valley, Hollywood) who are making plans about how they are going to make their next million dollar.
And then there are people in other part of the world(Africa, India, Middle East) who are worried about their next meal.
The difference is not about their mindset. It is just how life is around these people.
And the most difficult thing is to get out of there.
You can only think in a different way when you are around people who look at life from a different perspective. A perspective of a non-complainer.
It's true life is troublesome and difficult for most of the people. Yet we forget to look at one aspect of it.
We get to play the game. And if we understand the rules better. Work smarter and harder, there are enough opportunities out there.
There are more than enough anecdotes about people who were born in poor families or with a disability. They didn't let the obstacle stop them from living a good life.
They figured out the best possible way to live their life and then achieved it.
In simple words, they did not give up because of the bad hand they were dealt with.
Sure, it took them decades of hardship. But still they worked with the resources and opportunities they had. And won at the end.
They ended up at a far better place than they would have if they never tried to improve their life.
The problems won't ever stop.
If you are unemployed, you have money problem.
If you are employed and working long hours, with a small income, you have money and time problems.
If you own a business, you might have money, time and people problem.
No matter at what phase of life you are, problems will be there. They will try to stop you.
If you have no house, you have to pay the rent. However, when you buy a house, you have to pay property taxes, worry about the next installment of loan.
Some people have health problems and they believe that their life is bad.
Then they meet someone who have health and money problems. So they feel a little bit better about their life.
Whereas, the person with health and money problem believes that his life is worst. None has more problems than him.
Then there are people who have health and money problem. Also, they are living under huge debt. And no friends or family member is with them to support. Still, they keep going. And manage to get out of those circumstances well enough.
Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom. — Jim Rohn
What I am saying here is that we have a limited amount of time and energy. Either we can use it to dwell on problems or work on improving our life.
Sure, if you are dealt with a bad hand, you start with a set back. It will take you anywhere between 5-10 years to cover the gap.
But you still have to play. You can either live your life always thinking about how you are going to lose because of bad circumstances or work insanely to get out of there.
The same amount of energy you use to complain could be used to improve your skills.
The time and energy you spend dwelling on unjust things, could be used to practice skills. To make new connections.
You can either focus on how bad life is or how to make your life better.
Most people's first reaction to a problem or an obstacle is dwelling over how much it sucks.
Only a few people realize that there is opportunity in hardship. An opportunity to improve.
