Well, It is a lovely sunny day here in Cape Town - a bit of a south east wind blowing, but not too hectic - hopefully it doesn't increase as the day goes on.
This morning, I took off to our organic market that is always open on saturdays in order to buy some vegetables that I do not grow due to space.
The stall that I was visiting is one hundred percent organic and although they do not have huge amounts of produce, everything is so good and one must get there early otherwise all is sold out.
This time I was looking for cabbages - the red and the green variety and was just in time to get both.
I also managed to get the last bunch of curly kale.
They also had some nice lemons so I bought a few too.
I overheard one lady saying that the cabbages were being eaten by something and she would not buy them.
This made me smile, as we all know that organically grown veggies will often show marks of a few slugs or snails that have had a taste - this is because the produce has not been sprayed with pesticides.
When I got back, I peeled off the outer cabbage leaves and sure enough I found a couple of slugs which I disposed of.
The rest of the cabbages were perfect.
There is another veggie stall at this market but it is not organic - although they use organic methods, they are close to a farmer that sprays his crops and therefore the spray may get to their crops - they tell the customers which I think is very honest of them.
Anyway, I went away with my organic veggies feeling very happy.
