There's no question about it - smells evoke many feelings and memories; some good and some not so good.
There are many smells that I just love like...
My list goes on and on, but I have to pick three of my favourite smells, none of which are in the list above, for this week's Ladies of Hive Community Contest, and we're asked two questions, but only need to answer one of them.

Before I get to answer Question 2, I have a little tale to share with you; young Moms & Dads need to take heed of this one!
I've always loved the smell of a wood fire; the fire pit or fireplace on cold wintry nights, or a Braai (BBQ) followed by the gorgeous smell of meat being barbequed in summertime.
Fire however is something not to be played with as it can cause massive devastation.
My niece's son suffered severe burns a couple of years ago that landed him in hospital for a lengthy period.
This happened when his Dad asked him to fetch the packet of firelighters, but he instead brought out a bottle of flammable liquid and tossed some of that liquid straight from the bottle onto the fire while Dad's back was turned; with dire consequences of course!
It was a hard lesson and an avoidable accident if it was stored out of reach of little ones.
So the smell and crackling of a wood fire no longer is on the top of my list of favourites as this little boy suffered and will carry those scars for life.
So...what are my three favourite smells?
I don't think there's any cooking or baking smell that beats the yeasty smell of homemade bread baking, and nothing that draws everyone to the kitchen so fast when they know the bread's almost ready!
This smell always reminds me of my Ouma and Mom Lily, both who would never have thought of buying bread from the store!
Funny how my four brothers used to go to the local cafe and buy a half loaf of mass-produced bread with their pocket money at month end!
Mom however had to bake 2 loaves of bread every day, as all the friends used to come and play in our back yard every day after school and enjoy thick slices of hot bread!
I honestly don't know how she managed to do that all the time as I've now gone back to buying bread now and then since we're out of the hard lockdown.
We run a small bnb but do not provide meals all the time as many of our guests self-cater, except for the business guests.
I'm not a morning person so do not enjoy making early morning breakfasts!
Hubby brews our morning cuppa, and the aroma of that coffee brewing makes up for my early morning cooking stint. In wintertime I climb back under the covers, take a deep smell of that coffee and catch up on what's been happening on Hive - the perks of being semi-retired!
In summertime, we go and sit outside on the verandah and enjoy the fresh early morning air, another gorgeous smell.

Moving away from food and drink smells, the one other smell that I really love is the gorgeous fresssh smell that the grass emits after being mowed. I love this smell particularly as it means the garden is looking all manicured and well taken care of and we can appreciate the fruits of our labour by drinking in that smell and feasting our eyes on the beauty around.
I've also included pics of a golf course we visit from time to time, not to play the game, but simply to enjoy a meal at the clubhouse as from here we get to enjoy views of the spectacular golf course and the ocean.
