As a semi-retired Silver Blogger, I have the freedom to take short breakaways on the spur of a moment when we aren't too busy and can leave our staff in charge of our little BnB. So...when our youngest son had to go for a job interview, hubby and I accompanied him on a Road trip to the city of Gold, as that also is where our oldest son lives, so we were killing two birds with one stone!
We spent an awesome time with both our sons, the girlfriend, and met the very aloof Po for the first time.
The interview went well, and now it was just a waiting game; our youngest had lived in this city for about eleven years, but took a hiatus to explore the world across the waters as shared here before.
Goodbyes are never good, but we had to get back home and carry on with our business, so it was a tearful Mom who said goodbye to the oldest and his girlfriend.
I will show you the trip back home; with some quite different landscapes while traveling southwards towards Durban.
Our trip up to Johannesburg was on a Saturday, so the roads were not as busy, but going back to Durban, it was a weekday and of course, there were many trucks on the road carrying goods towards our harbour city.
We were flying past fields of Cosmos and Maize with some mountains on the horizon, so some of the images are not as clear, but I really wanted to share these with you as I'm sure you'll also enjoy the changing landscapes!
Besides crop farms, there are many cattle farms along the way and windmills everywhere; I missed many pretty sights, as we flew along the highway when the trucks did not slow us down at the many tollgates, as we did not want to hit peak traffic by the time we get closer to Durban.
Fields full of hay bales could be seen along the highway too, in readiness for winter feed.
A power station can be seen way on the horizon, and very pretty grain silos a little further along the highway.
There are very pretty mountains as one gets closer to the halfway mark at Harrismith; this is the place to feed the petrol tank and the family. We each have our own favourite, so always scatter in different directions to pick up a quick takeaway.
With a tummy full, I dozed off and woke up to find we were almost home!
This story has a happy ending - our son received a call a couple of days later with a job offer, so left home this Thursday, and will be starting his new job on Monday!
So now, for the first time in many many moons, hubby and I find ourselves all alone at home, just the two of us, as we've always had someone needing a room staying with us; there are many stories I can tell you about that, but those are for another day!
For now, it's Mission Accomplished!
This is day 9 of my attempt at #Hiveblopomo, an initiative of the awesome bizzy Queen Bee @traciyork, encouraging all Hivers to write a blog a day for the month of April. So far, so good, hope I reach Day 30!
