I suggest you don't read this if you're hungry, but I guess it's too late, as you've seen the pizza already 😉

The joys of sharing special family celebrations...and a goodbye, will always call for....yummy FOOD of course!

My baby brother was on his way back to his job in Khazakstan, and we'd not had a chance to see much of him this time, with all the storm damage around. He works for 6 weeks, then comes home for a 4-week break; although he often still works online while at home.

My one and only sister-in-law's birthday was just around the corner and mine was a couple of days later.
My nephew was also there and we'd not seen much of him as well. I had his number on speed dial during the scary last month of Mom's life and he literally became the family doctor in the true sense of the word during that difficult period. Matthew was an absolute angel and wanted the very best for his Ouma Lily, so actually encouraged me to call him if I had any concerns whatsoever, despite the long hours he works in the Emergency Room of a large hospital.
Sadly he was the one to declare Mom's death.
The built-in double oven is any baker's dream, but looks like one would need to go on a course to operate it, as it is all touch screen; I did not even want to touch it!
Everyone was busy doing their own thing before we all joined in their sunroom; the best part of the house as the wind can get icy up that way!

Back to happier things, my brother and his wife have just bought a new home with a magnificent view; despite being approx 40 minutes from the beach, you can see the ocean and even the ships on a clear day! I will be sharing some of that in a future #wednesdaywalk.

Lucy & Crusoe are both happy in their new home; Lucy who is in her Silver years and was sunning herself while Crusoe was busy exploring the new garden!

Today, it's all about food and a small family celebration although my brother had to deal with work issues so was distracted at times, we still had a relaxing afternoon reminiscing and enjoyed a delectable selection of finger eats.
My brother had bought this really nice wooden board called a Braaiplank (BBQ board), which was perfect for serving finger food; it even has dip bowls carved into the wood.

What did we eat?

A Stonebaked Caprese Pizza topped with sweet Rosa tomatoes and a basil oil drizzle, and BBQ sweet & sour chicken fillets on skewers.

Authentic stonebaked Italian Salami Pizza topped with Salami, marinated Artichokes, and Mozzarella cheese and a typical South African treat Vetkoek filled with spicy curried mince, except these are about a third of the size of a regular Vetkoek.

I love cooking and baking, I could call it a hobby of mine in fact, although I find now that the hair has turned silvery, the kilos just keep on piling on, so I have to watch what goes in my mouth!

Mom Lily who was very health conscious had a favourite phrase in her pantry, and I'll share it here with you; I typed it but could not find who said these wise words!

Of course ever since then, I think twice about buying a cream donut ;)

Life's been so hectic of late, that I did not even take the usual homemade dessert which always is my job!
Knowing my brother was going to be away from home for quite a while, I had whipped up a pancake batter before we left home, and made typical South African pancakes sprinkled with a sugar & cinnamon mix, after lunch, as they really are best eaten hot off the press.

We could not face dinner that night, but I had to feed our young BnB guests and our gardener cum handyman, and guess what they had? Takeout Pizza, which they did not mind at all!
