Strange how one can remain strong during a time of crisis and feel kind of detached as if one is wrapped up in a cocoon and everything around you is happening to someone else!

I find myself going into auto-mode and simply getting the job done, even though it seems like an impossible task!
That is how it was this week; I felt 100% fine after our two neighbours respectively lost their granny cottage and house; we were all upbeat and saying things like 'Oh well, nature has now given you the opportunity to do a home renovation, no one was hurt, and all is well that ends well.'

That is until the reality of what has just happened really hits home; my neighbour's phone was off all day yesterday, and when I managed to get hold of her, I knew she was feeling exactly like me.

I asked her to come over and enjoy a good cup of coffee and a chat. We ended up crying on each other's shoulders as we simply could not believe that the events of that tragic night had actually taken place and that we were part of it; her more so, I was a mere spectator!

Hearing about the loss of lives was just awful, it's the kind of stuff you see in movies, not in real life!

The young guest who was in the cottage at the time the mudslide came down, had gone out to replace his cellphone. His uncle arrived soon thereafter to fetch him, saying how the family felt when they realized just how close they were to losing him! It was kind of cathartic to go over the events of that night in detail, and we managed to laugh and cry and both felt a whole lot better afterwards.

Trying to hide behind a shield really does not do one any good; deal with what has to be done and you will be ready to face the new day.

This is day 14 of my attempt at #Hiveblopomo, an initiative of the awesome bizzy Queen Bee traciyork@traciyork, encouraging all Hivers to write a blog a day for the month of April.
Little did I know when this started, just how challenging the month of April was going to be!
