Many holy men occupy the ghats of Varanasi. These sadhus are often dressed in saffron-colored clothes and are men who have renounced material attachments in their quest for moksha, the liberation from the cycle of life. Having wandered all over India, many will then pass through and possibly settle in Varanasi. Here meditation and daily pujas in the holy Ganges aid them on their journey.
