Weekend Engagement Prompt
Weekend package
You're receiving a single package in the mail this weekend and in it is whatever you would like. Tell us in at least 400 words, what you would like to be in that package and why. What do you do with it and how it may impact upon your life? You can choose something that is alive or an inanimate object.
"Mommy! Park! Park! Park!" Gabby says.
"Okay, okay," I say, while taking a sip of my second round of coffee for the day. It has now gone to room temperature. "Just let me finish my coffee and then we'll go get ready." How am I going to get through this four-day weekend? I think to myself.
"Go-ge-ready," she says in a hurried voice with the words mushed together. It's a phrase that probably only I can understand. I continue my attempt at tidying up the room as I take sips of the lukewarm coffee.
"Go-ge-ready. Go-ge-ready. Go-ge-ready. Go-ge-ready." She repeats this phrase in a forceful attempt to get me to repeat it back to her. It's a little game we play.
"Go get readyyy." I try to say it cheerfully, but my exasperation has started to show.
I decide to drink some water and take Tylenol for my headache. As I'm dumping the remaining coffee down the drain and rinsing out the mug, I hear the thump of the mail carrier's boots coming up the two stairs of the tiny side porch. I hear the beep of something being scanned, then the top of the metal wall-mounted mailbox quickly being shut down. The foot steps trail away, and the mail truck starts its engine to take leave.
Since I'm close to the door, I decide to check what was just delivered. I'm not expecting anything, so what could it be? Most likely Money Mailer coupons or a grocery store ad, I think to myself. I lift up the metal lid of the mailbox to discover a small 5" x 7" bubble mailer. Interesting. Wait, did I order something from Amazon and then forget about it? The package return address is one that I don't recognize from London. Huh? I carry the package inside, feeling how light it is. I must open it right away to find out what it is.
I cut open the package with a pair of scissors and pull out a tiny plastic package with something very small and light inside of it. The package has a simple design of some clouds and an umbrella on the front. The text says: Directions: Just add water. It looks pretty innocent, so I decide to do just that.
"Go-ge-ready. Park!" Gabby gives me another reminder.
"Okay, Lovebug, just another minute." I say this as I'm pouring water into a glass. "Here. Want to play with my phone?" I hand her my phone in a desperate attempt to keep her busy while I find out what this package is.
I tear the plastic open and pull out the tiny clear capsule that has blue inside. I drop it into the water and, at first, it starts to fizz gracefully. After a little while, the capsule starts to jolt and bounce around the glass vigorously, creating more fizz. Before I know it, the glass is foaming and overflowing while magical sparks tremor around the glass. Everything is happening so fast. The foamy, sparkling glass is now turning blue as it's overflowing. I stand there in shock while Gabby watches in awe, with her mouth open. Then she looks at me to gauge my reaction.
Boom! The glass explodes as though it had just been hit by lightening. Glass is shattered among the kitchen counter and floor. As I'm coughing from the heavy smoke, it clears away to reveal a neatly tailored young lady, carrying a carpetbag and closed umbrella.
I stand there in awe as she says "Thank you for choosing Grow a Nanny, I'm Mary Poppins. Don't worry about the mess, I'll clean it up."
