Our family suffered for two week now from influenza. I was ill for one week and it was absolutely horrible to have high fever and take care of an infant at the same time. Sometimes it felt like I couldn't even rise my head from the pillow and yet I had to feed him, change diapers, measure his fever, clear his nose and all that stuff. Additionally, I was worrying sick because his temperatures were more than 40C and his breathing was heavy. Jeez, I hate to worry about him...
Well, I'm good now but my little guy is still not okay. He has been ill for almost two weeks now and even though he has no fever and feels quite energetic, it doesn't mean it's over for him. He is a small infant, so there is a high risk of pneumonia, otitis, pericarditis, meningitis or some other dangerous shit that might follow influenza. I deeply hope that he will just get better! His coughing, rhinitis and liquids in his lungs is just enough.
God, I wish I would have vaccinated him against seasonal influenza. I usually don't vaccinate myself against seasonal influenza but this year I thought about it for me and the kid. Somehow I decided against it as in the news they told that it is not effective this year. In the beginning of this year another influenza virus grew in number against predictions and the selected vaccination in Finland doesn't cover it. It would have been effective against this type of influenza virus that we had. :/ I should have known better.
However, as I said, I'm fine now and I will post about my downhill skiing soon! Stay tuned. :)
