English version

It has become a cliché in the trade and even a hashtag, but certainly, “art saves”. It is one of those things that arose to make people love, to love with the hearts of others, of those who know how. Balm in the most inconceivable moments. It has always been that way, fortunately.

When the deepest and most eternal damage of all takes hold, that of the soul, each person seeks their mechanisms to drain. Those who best adapt apply Darwin and live with suffering, transforming it into what little by little helps them to continue: they find the cure in resignation, later coming to venerate it. Those who cannot with the cross make up the other part of the story, just as necessary. I still do not define if luckily or unfortunately I am on the side of those who continue with the pus on their backs, but I appreciate it. I don't know how to live any other way that doesn't involve draining. Masochism, perhaps, psychiatrists call it.

The date that cannot be postponed arrived, that of pain without remedy, and nothing planned as a rite of relief came to fruition, which is normal, and is now part of our dose of torment. But luckily, it coincided with Una salva de porvenir, that's when I put my Darwinian mechanisms into practice.

The Artistic Brigade of the Santiago branch of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), an institution that brings together the young avant-garde art makers in Cuba, set out for the hills, where the sea also makes its way to form the most beautiful municipality of Santiago de Cuba, "Guamá". Theatre, literature, and music we carried throughout the Turquino Plan from Friday, July 14, to Sunday, July 16. Joining the tour would be the most effective cure for the grief that flooded me, and surely, like me, many of those who went also loaded their torments in a jar, hoping to plunge it into the sea to be reborn clean while we offered what we are best capable of giving: art.

We got to Chivirico, bordering on half a day, we transferred to an open-top truck, ready to make us venture across the Sierra Maestra to the Los gallegos community. Most will use no idea where they will be. We saw the usual path on each tour, the wide road to our southern beaches on one side and the imposing mountains on the other, but the Kamaz deviated in a curve under a bridge and the real journey began.

Sometimes it is unimaginable that a mountain can be crossed, as if we buried ourselves in it, leaving it uncovered, exposing its most intimate secrets. It's not an easy thing, really. That path that was not a comfortable path, but rather a furrow made by hand weeding and removing stones, led us with our hearts on our tongues. We then arrived after noon to Los gallegos, where we made the first stop on the Tour.

That path that was not a comfortable path, but rather a furrow made by hand weeding and removing stones, led us with our hearts on our tongues. It is the second time that I live the Una salva de porvenir, experience and if I had to use a single word to define what it has meant to me, I would say "delivery". It is a profound act of kindness.
I had never heard of that place, excluded from everything, swallowed up by the mountains. A colleague from the group noted a detail that I later noticed: all the people there looked a lot alike. The pattern of light eyes predominated, I counted three heterochromias (rare). That made me assume that it is a population with a high rate of consanguinity in its gene pool, crosses between close relatives. I remember that someone mentioned that Guamá was one of the municipalities with the highest rates of cases like this. It's a pretty small community, too. Many girls carried babies in their arms or showed their bulging bellies. Sometimes it is hard to be aware that these customs still continue, despite the dates shown on the calendar...

There were many children throughout the Tour, that made me very happy. I work for them doing relationship theater together with the provincial methodologist of that specialty in the province, Ricardo Martínez Benavides. We use my children's stories as the central axis of the presentation. We play with the characters and we add or remove them as it arises. Each community is different and people do not behave in the same way, or do not have the same interests, so they change from scenario to scenario as they fit better.
On this occasion, the Artistic Brigade was attended by the La Caja Negra Scenic Experimentation Group, accompanied by other musicians such as troubadour Carlos Javier Álvarez Bravo, saxophonist Yormanis Soto, Head of the Music Section of the Santiago branch of the AHS and professor at the Esteban Salas Conservatory, writer Roberto Fournier, Vice-director of Editorial Oriente, who brought children's books to give away in the communities. Among them are some new titles: Estaciones y regresos, by José Raúl Fraguela and El enamorado de la maestra, by Leydis González Amador. Two beautiful volumes of poetry for children, plus one to color, with which I worked magic to invent the stories of each figure. We were also accompanied by the urban music duo My Toska, made up of two young people with whom the Association works in view of their next growth in the ranks of the AHS, in the case of Yoel Cipriano and Margarita Morlot. It was also the propitious space so that the new vice-presidents of the subsidiary could learn more about the importance of the work that they have committed to in the organization.
That same Friday, July 14, at night, we were sharing with the residents of Uvero, in the House of Culture of the place. We brought the show Comerse la Noche to them, with the group La Caja Negra as hosts and the participation of the other artists from the Brigade. It was the moment to honor our Mirtha Aguirre, when the writer Roberto Fournier recited one of his most profound poems, I get used to it.

On Saturday, July 15, we were in three more towns in Chivirico. In the morning we were received by the La Calabaza community, where the largest number of people we had were children and we dedicated our show to them. Then we went to Marañón 1 and at night we shared with the community members of Bahía Larga.
Finally, on Sunday the 16th we finished our tour in Caletón, with a special activity for children, celebrating Cuban Children's Day. It is beautiful to work for them. They take out one's deepest sensibility. They are capable of bringing joy to the surface where you think it has been extinguished. They fill our souls with joy and nothing comforts more than the gratitude in their eyes.
