"The meaning of things is not in the things themselves, but in our attitude toward them." (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry)

The photo 'says what you feel'. It was a long, and challenging, workout. It's the Kipchoge Track; let's just say it couldn't be any different.

There are three iconic stadiums for athletics in Kenya. Two are in Nairobi: the Kasarani and the Nyayo; they are the largest and the third is the one our countrymen are trained in today. source

The facility, which is named Kipchoge but not after Eliud, but after Kipchoge Keino has a capacity of 10,000 spectators and is effectively home to many of the world's top long-distance runners.

Kipchoge Keino, one of Kenya's greatest runners of all time, was Olympic Champion in Mexico in '68 and Munich in '72.

Keino has also been a great activist for the development of sport in Kenya. In 1982, he founded the Kip Keino Athletics Training Center in Eldoret, which has been home to many of Kenya's top long-distance runners. In 2018, he deserved the "Champion for Peace" award from the international organization Peace and Sport in recognition of his contribution to sport and peace in the world.source

  • My friend I'm tired but happy. This first day of training on the Kipchoge track has been very difficult. .... very difficult but we have fulfilled and I'm super happy.

The altitude did its job, it knocked the wind out of him, and he said he didn't understand the effect of working at 2400m above sea level. Life, and its lessons.

Training at altitude is recognized for its benefits: it can improve red blood cell production, cardiovascular system efficiency, running economy, and EPO hormone production in long-distance runners.

-I was telling you that it was hot, I finished every stretch feeling dizzy from the shortness of breath and the intensity, but I kept going.

That's how you prove whether you're good-looking or not. As I have already told you several times.
I always remember Juanito, the coach of the national team, who told me that the athlete is not measured when everything is good, but is measured when everything is bad....

-Yes, yes, but don't die trying.

Although I joke about it, I worry because the altitude is also a double-edged sword. Like calm, and rest, which is necessary but right now always unleashes homesickness.
-Relax, today went well and that's the most important thing. Tomorrow will be another day.

The days are getting longer. It is a challenge to live 30 days in an unknown country, the change is abrupt. The idyllic moment or the unprecedented opportunity does not make us lose perspective. Living the dream has nuances.
