There are so many incredible women in the world but my biggest inspiration is my mom. She braved being an outcast from her family because she chose to be an activist and use her skills and passion to help protect our environment. She has been arrested, worked long hours through my childhood with little pay, while taking me on amazing adventures on Greenpeace boats and showing me a world very few children have the privilege of seeing. She instilled in me ethics, a caring for the world, courage to speak my truth. She’s the epitome of a strong independent woman. I’m so grateful that she gave me this life. This is her before I was born while protesting a nuclear boat coming into the Vancouver coast. The sign says “Go home death machine” I know its a couple days late, but DE146D92-1C5B-41A5-8F7A-60950C4D5BC7.jpegHappy International women’s day.

This is her own words about what was happening that day.

"The picture is from a 1981 Greenpeace campaign during United Nations Disarmament week. We were trying to stop the USS Ranger - a nuclear weapons capable vessel - from coming into Vancouver harbour. We delayed their anchoring and stirred up a lot of sh*t in the media. I received death threats. The marine police who finally nabbed us argued among themselves about the importance of civil disobedience on this issue. Six months later 35,000 people were in the streets calling for Vancouver to declare itself a nuclear-free zone. This culminated in 1984 when over 100,000 people marched and the designation was declared ... and still stands today. BC doesn't mine uranium either in line with that commitment. Remember - sometimes it takes just a few people to get an idea rolling. Everyones voice matters."
