Loveth, listen!. I am not saying that you must get married to a stupendously rich man but at least, show some level of seriousness when chosing a man at this stage of of your life. You will be 28 next month and you are not growing younger. You should be talking about a man that can sponsor what it takes to marry you and take care you afterwards.

Loveth cuts in;

Dad, I love Charles and I believe things can turnaround sooner than expected and everything will be fine.

Love alone can't do it. Bring a man that has a job and can marry you and take care of you. This is all I demand from you. That's all I have to tell you. The dad concluded.

Loveth left to her room with disappointment. She's in love with Charles. Charles is a young man that is still seeking for job after graduating from the university. He is ready to get married to Loveth but what is standing as a clog in his wheel is his financial status. Loveth had previously been betrayed by some rich men in the past. She had dated many men that ended up not leading to marriage. She is ready to give love prominence ahead of wealth this time around.

She went straight to her room and was crying. She called Charles and requested to meet him later in the day. After dropping the call, she went in a deep thought of what could be her fate in life when it comes to marriage.

I am doing well financially and I wonder why dad is not understanding. I can take charge of the financial need of Charles and myself after getting married pending when he gets job. Is it a taboo for a woman to serve this role in our land? Why is my father rating money ahead of a true affection called love.

She continued in these lines of thoughts till Charles called to tell her he's on his way.

She rushed to the bathroom to take her bath after which she dressed up to meet up with the love of her life at a close by garden.

"There is fire on the mountain" a disappointed Loveth told Charles.

My father insisted that I can't get married to you because of your present financial status. He said at least, you should get a job before talking of marriage. I am sad and confused.

After a moment of silence, Charles replied;

"Since you are confused, go by your father's advice. He doesn't want you to come and suffer with me.

These words were coming out with tears in his face.

Don't talk like that. You know I love you. I have a suggestion base on the thrust I have in our relationship - said Loveth.

"I am listening" responded Charles.

As you are aware that I am relatively earning well from my work, I wish to save in the next one year for our traditional wedding. Once we do that, we will start our marital journey and do the remaining aspect of the wedding whenever we have the resources. The traditional wedding is the most important. I'll inform my father that you've gotten a job so that our friendship at this stage can gain his approval.

Charles welcomed the suggestion and appreciated Loveth a lot.

I'll not disappoint you. I will always appreciate this sacrifice. Thank you my love.

They kissed with smiling faces and then have some fun in the garden before departing.

Loveth did not waste time to inform her father that her boyfriend has gotten job. The news however did not elicit excitement from her father as expected.

Don't you like Charles around me at all? Loveth asked her father.

I wish you could settle for someone else. My spirit is not just attracted to that boy. He replied.

Dad, you promised to love me and you have been doing that since I was a child. I brought Charles and you complained of him not having job. I am informing you of a good development now but you are indifferent. Don't you love me again?

I love you my daughter. I am just trying to be a protective father. Your happiness is my concern. I think at this stage, I will accept Charles since you insisted in marrying him.

"Thank you dad. I love you." An excited Loveth appreciated her father.

Loveth did not waste time to begin the plan with the love of her life. She started saving into Charles's bank account in preparation for the traditional wedding. In ten months, she has saved an amount enough for the traditional wedding. During this period, Charles had gained acceptance from Loveth's father and he could visit Loveth at home.

They both sat together and chose a date for the wedding after consultation with both families. Preparations became intense as the day drew nearer.

Charles was introduced by his friend, Johnson into an investment scheme with high return on investment. The ROI was mouth watering. He invested the money in his account with the expectation that the principal with the interest will be withdrawn latest two weeks before the date of the event. John that introduced him to the scheme gave him convincing assurance. Charles planned to make the whole thing a surprise package for his girlfriend and she wasn't informed of anything about it.

However, no return was made on the stated day of payment of accrued interest. It was stated that you can as well withdraw your capital or rollover your investment. After series of emails coming from the investment body, it turned out that the scheme is Ponzi. It has crashed.

Loveth on her own part was excitedly waiting for the day of her joy to come. Two weeks to the date, she met Charles and told him that it is time for them to start buying the wedding materials - oil, yam, fish, drinks, goat and so on. Charles was however postponing it with one excuse or the other.

It continued this way till five days before the date of the event when Loveth became angry with Charles on why he was not showing commitment again after printing invitation cards for friends and family. It got to a stage that the possibility of having the event was becoming uncertain.

After much pressure, Charles confessed to Loveth two days to the wedding day.

"Where will I hide my face? I am disappointed in you. Do you know how far we have publicised this wedding. Some of my relatives from far are around for this event already. What will I tell them? This embarrassment is huge." Loveth said.

"I am sorry. I trusted Johnson ignorantly. Forgive me" Charles pleaded.

Loveth left Charles with anger and retuned home. She informed her dad about the unfortunate development and the dad was very angry as displayed in his tone of comment;

"I knew that boy will disappoint you but I never knew he was going to embarrass us as a family. You caused it anyway. How will you save money for a man to use same in marrying you? That's not love but stupidity. I wish this shame is for you alone. You can see now that I wasn't against Charles out of hatred. What an elder see while sitting down, a child may not see it even after climbing a tree. I will call a family meeting and inform everyone."

Family meeting was called and the issue was discussed. Everyone was disappointed. They all returned to their abode the following day while Loveth traveled from town to cool of her head from the shame caused her by someone she trusted.
