I don't know if anyone out there has a little table or something similar in your room that are ugly or old. Well, as I love to go inventing, and sometimes the truth is that I do not get things quite right, but the intention is what counts and also the truth is that it entertains me a lot.

No sé si alguno por ahí tiene alguna mesita o algo parecido en su habitación que estén feos o viejitos. Bueno, como a mí me encanta andar inventando, y a veces la verdad es que no me salen las cosas del todo bien, pero la intención es lo que cuenta y también lo cierto es que me entretiene mucho.

It turns out that I didn't have bedside tables or nightstands, whatever you call them, and it was a headache and quite uncomfortable to have creams next to the bed, on the floor. So I urgently needed something to place them next to the bed and solve that problem. I went online to look for something that would be good, nice and cheap, since my budget was not very high. So I looked for options with melamine, and there was not much variety, and their prices were very high. So I kept looking, and I got some nice but old tables. Besides, the color didn't match anything I had at home since they were brown.

Resulta que no tenía mesas de noche o veladores, como los llamen ustedes, y era un dolor de cabeza y bastante incómodo tener cremas al lado de la cama, en el piso. Por lo que necesitaba con urgencia algo para ubicarlos al lado de la cama y resolver ese problema. Me di a la tarea de buscar por internet algo que me sirviera, bueno, bonito y barato ya que mi presupuesto no era muy alto. Así que busqué opciones con melamina, y no había mucha variedad, y sus precios eran muy elevados. Por lo que continúe buscando, y conseguí unas mesitas bonitas pero viejitas. Además el color no me combinaba con nada de nada de lo que tenía en casa ya que eran color café.

After seeing them, I wrote to the person who was selling them, obviously they were used, I went to his house and brought them to mine.
The tables were a bit deteriorated, but kept their varnish layer intact. The drawer had nothing to open it, so it was uncomfortable. With this, I had all the problems, and I knew how to solve them. I had to buy paint, brush, roller, sandpaper and the handles to open the drawer. I went to the hardware store, ordered the color I liked, an aquamarine blue, top quality water-based enamel, and two handles that I liked quite a bit.

Luego de verlas, le escribí a la persona que las vendía, obviamente estaban usadas, fui a su casa y me las traje a la mía.
Las mesitas estaban un poco deterioradas, pero mantenía su capa de barniz intacta. El cajón no tenía nada para poder abrirlo, por lo que era incómodo. Ya con esto, tenía todos los problemas, y ya sabía cómo resolverlos. Tenía que comprar pintura, brocha, rodillo, lijas y las manillas para abrir el cajón. Fui a la ferretería, pedí el color que me gustaba, un azul aguamarina, esmalte al agua de primera calidad, y dos manillas que me gustaron bastante.

Now all that was left to do was to start. I took the tables out to sand them (you have to do it because otherwise the sawdust will get embedded in every corner of the house), and with 80 grit sandpaper, I patiently sanded them until I removed the layer of varnish. It is important to remove that layer because the new paint would peel off almost immediately after drying. So I sanded, sanded and sanded and when I had them ready, I wiped them with a semi damp cloth to remove the sawdust and put them in the apartment. Once I had them sanded at home, I put some garbage bags to start painting and not to dirty the floor, so I would avoid a tedious later work.

Ahora solo quedaba empezar. Saqué las mesas para lijarlas (hay que hacerlo porque sino el polvo del aserrín se va a incrustar en cada rincón de la casa), y con lija grano 80, le di con paciencia hasta quitar la capa de barniz. Es importante quitar esa capa porque la pintura nueva se despegaría casi inmediatamente luego de secarse. Así que lijé, lijé y lijé y al tenerlas ya listas, le pasé un trapo semi húmedo para quitar es aserrín y las metí al departamento. Ya teniéndolas lijadas en casa, coloqué unas bolsas de basura para empezar a pintar y no ensuciar el piso, así me evitaría un trabajo posterior tedioso.

Before painting them, I took out the drawers and with a drill, I opened a hole to install the handles. I measured the center both horizontally and vertically and the ideal size for the screw to pass through. Now it was time to paint. First one coat, waited for it to dry, then another coat and from there, touch up where needed.

Antes de pintarlas, saqué los cajones y con un taladro, le abrí un hueco para poder instalar las manillas. Medí el centro tanto horizontal como verticalmente y el tamaño idóneo para que pasara el tornillo. Ahora sí, a pintar. Primero una mano, esperé que secara, luego otra mano y de ahí, retocar donde necesitara.

The important thing was to apply a coat of paint with the roller, as homogeneous as possible, to try to cover the brown wood very well. Then I applied two more coats and let them dry for a couple of hours.

Lo importante fue poner una mano de pintura con el rodillo, lo más homogénea posible, para tratar de cubrir muy bien la madera marrón. Luego le di dos manos más y las dejé secar por un par de horas.

Once this phase was finished and the tables were dry, I proceeded to place the handles. You can see the result, the truth is that I was very happy and pleased with how they turned out. Totally renovated, they went from being old tables to vintage tables like new.

Al terminar esta fase y tener secas las mesas, procedí a colocarle las manillas. El resultado lo pueden observar, la verdad me sentí muy feliz y complacida de cómo quedaron. Totalmente renovadas, pasaron a ser unas mesitas viejas, a unas mesitas vintages como nuevas.
