Global Warming and The Bomb Cyclone!
I have been reading enough blogs and articles, not to mention all across the US media questions like this “ where is global warming in this winter freeze?” Or even “ who wants to tell me about global warming?” Well I WILL ! I will tell you all about global warming and I will do my best to try to explain my point of view to those of you non believers.
Let’s start with the beginning so those who have not been well informed could be up to date hehe..
Climate change is a very much discussed subject of our generation, but never in the world had it encountered so much resistance than in the USA. But my point is not to accuse anybody of anything. My main reason for writing this blog is the frustration that misinformation brings with itself. We all can agree on the fact that diversity in opinions brings with itself not only growth but also attention to a certain subject. That is not the case with climate change and global warming. We can disagree always to the point where a certain subject doesn’t threaten the existence of humanity altogether. Remember the “Big Button’’ disagreement the other day? This is more like that. Nevertheless there is enough controversy regarding this subject. So let’s start with facts and what is proven.
What is Climate Change? What does it actually mean? Well as far as my research goes climate change refers to the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth. So far this description I don’t think represents an understanding issue. If it does it simply means that out planet is getting hotter and not in a good way!
Ok so here is where the skeptical in you might ask a few questions. And you have the right to do so. How can you prove that climate change and global warming is real? Well I can’t either, but I was reading some materials and I found out that the people at NASA can. Remember those guys that put a man on the Moon?
Yeah those guys! Pretty amazing right? I mean how many of you have done something even remotely close to that? Well you haven’t and I haven’t either. You want to know why? Because I am not a scientist! Thankfully they are scientists.
Well those guys, the scientists at Nasa, say they know why and they can prove it. Here’s what they tell me. They tell me that the main cause of global warming aka climate change is US! To put it in their words and I quote “the main cause of the current global warming trend is human expansion of the "greenhouse effect"1 — warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space.”
But what is the greenhouse effect? Ever been in a green house ? Well like in a greenhouse radiant heat from the sun passes through the glass, aka atmosphere in our case, warming the contents. The radiant heat from inside being trapped by the glass. Here is a image that can put it in perspective even more.
Ok so now you are going to say that comparing the Earth to a greenhouse is actually not a bad thing. It is not if everything went according to plan. The plan was that Earth used to trap some energy and kept itself mild and suitable for living things. Without its atmosphere and the greenhouse effect the average temperature on Earth would be around zero degrees Fahrenheit. Now that was normal planet behavior. In the meantime greed seemed to increase amongst some of us and we took it to another level. We started adding some more gases to the atmosphere. Like some extra carbon dioxide from deforestation and burning fossil fuel. We managed to put so much CO2 in the atmosphere that it has risen by a third since the Industrial Revolution began making it the most long-lived cause of climate change.
Like that was not enough we added to the “ recipe” some methane and the largest source of methane comes from the emissions from the oil and gas industry, but also livestock manure
( yes bullshit and cow gas emits methane and a lot of it). As methane doesn’t linger as much as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the long run, it absorbs heat more effectively. And when I say more effectively it means more effectively. It is 84 times more potent than CO2. As those two weren’t enough we put some more. Nitrous oxide produced by ‘’industrial soil cultivation practices’’ aka fertilizers, fossil fuel combustion, nitric acid production and biomass burning. Remember the word industrial and do try to stay with me. I do have a point to all this.
Ohh how could I forget CFC’S(chlorofluorocarbons).Also entirely of industrial origin mainly used in things like refrigerators and aerosols that contribute to something more special, they destroy the ozone layer. You know that layer of ozone that protects us from Sun’s harmful UV rays? The ozone we manage to put a hole in?
Yeah that one!
Remember when I told you to keep the word industrial in mind? Well this is why.
Our planet started heating up. Contrary to the weather outside it is getting warm. Why because we humans have grown our industry so much that our whole existence depends on industry aka mainly corporations. Over 1,300 independent scientific experts have concluded that more than 95% of human activities over the past 50 years (!!!) have warmed our planet. Remember scientist? “A person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more of the natural or physical sciences.”Go grab a dictionary if you don’t believe me.
Ok ok so how can climate change and global warming be real when it is so cold outside? Bear with me and we will get to that!
Now that we established the causes of global warming let’s get to the effects or PROOF.
Ok so you have the cause, the effects and the proof of climate change. Not from me but from those 1,300 scientist from around the world.
Let’s see what they say about this horrible winter bomb cyclone as they call it and why it occurs.
The main conditions that let these snowstorms to continue to occur are the following. Remember when I talked about warmer than average ocean surface temperatures in the Atlantic? Well these can lead to high amounts of moisture flowing into a storm and contribute to intensify the storm. Be it a hurricane or a winter storm. Research in this direction has shown that increasing surface temperatures and the declining of Arctic sea ice produces atmospheric circulation patterns that favor the development of winter storms in the eastern USA. What a coincidence! Bomb cyclone hehe..
Ever heard of EL NINO?
“El Niño is the periodic warming of water in the Pacific Ocean every few years. When it occurs, it means more energy is available for storms to form there. El Niño also affects wind shear, which is when air currents at a lower altitude blow in a different direction from winds higher in the atmosphere”
Studies have shown that winter effects associated with the effects of El Nino have a strong influence in the creation of severe snowstorms in the eastern US. And I quote
“scientists found that severe snowstorms are approximately twice as likely to occur in the Northeast and Southeast regions during years when a moderate to strong El Niño is present as compared to years when neutral conditions exist.”
So as summers become hotter, winters become colder and if you choose to believe that climate change or global warming is real it is totally up to you. I only can stress that, if it is, humanity is in great danger as we have entered a self destruction period. Unless we do something to slow down this process all of our debates regarding this subject are useless. We as humanity will become useless in the way of nature.
