Just saying..
As the arctic cold hit most of the country I decided to make myself a cup of mulled wine. Cabernet Sauvignon seems like the best choice since I plan to add honey and I don’t want it to be too sweet. Add to that a spoon of whole black pepper and some cinnamon sticks and you got yourself a great cup of hot delicious wine. So with my cup of wine ready and the weather being chilly I am ready to write today’s blog.
The night sets in and most of the people get ready for a new day..still I cannot stop but wonder how important it is to be grateful of what you have in life.
We spend most of our late evenings at home and from time to time we decide to watch a movie. As the commercials on tv seem to get on my nerves, movie night seems like a great choice instead. Last night we picked a movie randomly, something that we rarely do, and decided to watch it. It was called “Brad’s status” and from the title it didn’t seem like it had much to offer, especially since the main character was Ben Stiller who is best known for his comic roles rather then the deep ones.
Nevertheless it was selected and we were ready to roll! From the beginning it seemd like it was a well written script and I must say it captured my attention from the start. The main ideea surrounds a family somewhere in suburban California if I’m not mistaken. They have a normal life, he has a good job (having his own NGO), a smart gifted child..Somehow from the beginning you sense that he is not satisfied with his life and keeps comparing his acheivements with the ones of his much successful friends. I am not going to spoil the movie to much in case any of you decide to watch it, but I have found myself wondering and thinking that at some point in my life I have come to know those feelings. Regret, anger, dissapointment, even envy. At every stage of the movie I understood more and more about myself and it was intriguing. How many of us choose to live life in regret of what might of happen instead of just living and loving life at it’s fullest? I know I have..and I realised it is a common mistake since the human conscious and the subcounscious tends to reach for more. As we do that, be it from our own intention or just a scrap of survival defense mechanism inherited through our DNA from our ancestors, we seem to forget all about life. Brad came to realise that what he had was more than he could ever ask for .. I on the other hand was left to contemplate on my own decisions and regrets. And yes as I woke up this morning I was grateful for the house I live in for the wonderful carring man I have in my life and all the daily blessings that come with it. But was there regret? What I could have done or what I could have become? No! I will stop having regrets since my journey is not done. As long as I live there will be more mountains to climb, beauty to admire and storms to fight off!
As I sip my wine I contemplate about all these things and I try to understand and appreciate life more than I have ever done before..
