FULL MOON AND SNOW

Here now follows Part 2 of my report on our trip to Oybin. With us were marlasinger@marlasinger, Erik, stepko@stepko, gunnarheilmann@gunnarheilmann, candelart@candelart, Hans, Ramona, Geane, Felix and Marlene.

After everyone had already taken some light painting photos, it started to snow, or rather, a mixture of drizzle and snow. It was getting colder and very windy up on the mountain. Anything but pleasant.

Again and again we warmed up at the fire that Uwe had made or sought shelter from the rain and wind in the lower church. We had not yet given up hope that the weather would improve. However, the full moon and the deep, thick clouds on the Oybin created a very special light. The pictures in this article were all taken without additional illumination. In the picture above you can see the so-called library window, although there are actually two. What purpose the rooms with these special windows had is not quite clear. Caspar David Friedrich also painted this motif. However, he simply left out the second window. However, it could also be that the scene actually looked like this at the time because the rubble had not been cleared away at the time.

Then I set up the camera at the Kaiserhaus. The outer wall stands directly on the rock. It is not known how many construction workers fell into the depths during construction at that time. In any case, it looks very dangerous to me. It goes down several hundred metres.

By now the camera and I were very wet. Everyone was frozen through. The rain was getting heavier. So we packed up our things and started the descent and the journey home. I will probably not forget this special experience in a hurry. Many thanks to Dirk and Uwe for making this night excursion possible. We will definitely come back again, hopefully in better weather.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
