📷 Nikon D750 - Laowa 12/2,8 - f8 - ISO 100 - 113 seconds

Day 2 of our trip to the abandoned Soviet military airfield. We met stepko@stepko, Hans, Michel and Dominic at the airfield in the late afternoon. I took the drone for a big spin around the site. Unfortunately, I still haven't managed to upload the video to D.Tube, so I can't show it to you. Afterwards, Hans and Michel served us delicious food from the barbecue. Thanks again for that. As full of food as I was, I then rolled to our first spot, the former cinema. We made a screen in the cinema out of a tripod, a planting pole and a sheet. Hans kindly put his projector at my disposal. We used it to project the image of the wolf from the Russian cartoon series "Ну, погоди!" onto our screen. When all the spectators (stepko@stepko, Michel, Hans, Dominic) had taken their seats, I triggered the camera. After 10 seconds, Hans switched off the projector and I cleared it out of the picture. I illuminated the cinema with the Back Light Scanner with a green colour filter. In the last step, I blew some cigarette smoke into the cinema and lit it briefly, after all, the wolf always smokes in the animated series.

I like the colour a little better in this version, but the smoke is missing. Also, one of the models has moved. I won't say who now. 😉

Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take a normal photo of the cinema in daylight. Perhaps one of my fellow campaigners has photographed the cinema?

The effort for the preparation of the picture was quite big, but the actual light painting was then relatively quickly in the can. After we had dismantled everything, we went into the second stairwell of the building. There, the artist Plotbot Ken painted a picture on the wall. I illuminated it with the Light Scanner. Then I illuminated the staircase with the Emisar D18 and rotated the camera around the optical axis.

Up to here, everything was still quite simple and relaxed. Because stepko@stepko was still taking a picture inside the building, I set up my camera outside and pressed the shutter release. I rolled a cigarette, opened a beer and lit up the buildings with the Noctigon DM 11.

That didn't look bad in the first place. I thought some light behind some of the windows would be cool. So stepko@stepko lit some of the windows from inside with the Emisar D18 and blue colour filter. The building on the left was quite easy. The building on the right is overgrown with rubies. stepko@stepko fought his way through the jungle to get inside the building. I hope you have removed all the thorns from your legs by now.

It was slowly getting light again. A very successful night with very pleasant people was coming to an end. We definitely have to do it again soon.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
