This is the self-portrait that heavily influenced my currently illustrative style and my exploration of long shadows. I have done some more in this series that I'll show you this week. I'm working on a new one too at the moment in this style as well as another very special piece for a newly-wedded couple in an entirely new direction. It is challenging me!
Drawing and illustration is something that has stuck with me since childhood, and I have never been able to put it down. I grew up surrounded with books and blank paper. I considered literature as a career, and indeed my literature teacher encouraged me to study it, but graphic design won. I did briefly study Jane Austen at the University of Oxford in a short course to get it out of my system last year and enjoyed that very much. It was a bucket list item for me as I am such a classic period drama and literature fan. But it also reiterated to me that I chose the right path with illustration and design as my true calling.
I hope you like it, and stay tuned for the rest in the series coming soon. I'm off quite early to bed now (8pm AEST), as my 4 month old baby will have me up a couple of times tonight ... bless!
