I started making a new series that explores the landscape of of the environment I spent my childhood. I grew up in the Niger Delta part of Nigeria, Warri, where we had petroleum and petrochemical refineries and the scape in many parts of the town carried so many memories which inspired this new series.
I am particularly using acrylic paints for this series as they are pretty serious works to me and I have to exhibit them. I had a bit of doubts when I started gathering the ideas because drawing refineries, their facilities and their components can be very challenging especially for an artists like me who loves detailing. But I thought, maybe the details don’t really matter, maybe the vibe and the feeling is what is important.
This piece took me about 3 days to complete with a total of around 8 hours. I used both palette knife and brush for this and loved the outcome. The painting depicts a cooling tower in an oil refinery
