I made this painting of an Eyo masqurade but in a cool style afterafter planning to explore traditional and modern vibes all in one. Eyo masqurade is one of the most popular masqurades in West Africa best affliated and symbolic with Lagos state in Nigeria. The masqurade is iconic for their white/ grey costume, a hat, a long stick and their face covered with clothes as well. I personally have never seen one in real life as I am always not in the Lagos when the Eyo festival is on, but I hope to one day as it is one of the most popular gatherings and cultural event in West Africa every year. I had to icorporate a Nike Air Jordan in this painting, giving the masquerade and goofy and cool vibe, and less scary than they may appear. Painting the Jordans was wuite challenging as I had to make it detailed enough. The yellow buses in the background are also symbolic of Lagos state as they are the major means of transport in Lagos state. Other aspects that make this piece interesting are the backgrounds and the staff held in the hand. This was created using pastel mostly, charcoal for the base sketch and shading and acrylic paints for the highlights and bright colours. The steps are shared below and I hope you love it.
