There is a balcony at my mother's house that I have always liked. I have spent so much time there that, when I think of that house, the balcony is one of the first places that comes to mind. I don't know if it is because of the view, the breeze or all the memories connected to it. Probably a little bit of everything.
One of the things I enjoy most is watching the sunrise from there. When I am up early enough, I can see the sky slowly changing while everything around is still quiet. First there is a little light, then the colors become clearer and the sun begins to appear. I have seen it many times and I still enjoy stopping to watch.
Sometimes I take a cup of coffee with me. Other times I just go outside for a few minutes before starting the day. There have been mornings when I was thinking about everything I had to do and ended up looking at the sky instead. Those few minutes usually helped me start the day differently.
That balcony also brings back many memories. Conversations, visits, afternoons sitting there for a while, and days when I went outside simply because I wanted some fresh air. There are memories I can no longer place on a specific date, but I remember the balcony and the feeling of being there.
I also like being there in the late afternoon. Watching the sun go down is different from watching it come up. The light becomes softer, the sky changes color and the houses begin to look different. Sometimes I stay until there is almost no light left.
And then there are the full moon nights. Those are some of my favorite moments on that balcony. The plants, the railing and everything around look different under the moonlight. The air is usually cooler and the neighborhood quieter.
The wind is almost always part of the scene. Sometimes it only moves the leaves of the plants. Other times it comes in stronger and makes the curtain move through the doorway. When it is hot, that breeze feels especially good after spending hours inside.
I have also gone out there when I was worried about something. Looking at the sky does not solve problems, of course. What is waiting inside is still there when I return. But sometimes I need to get away from the same four walls for a few minutes. Looking farther away helps me put my thoughts in order.
My mother's balcony has been there during different stages of my life. I have changed, many things have changed around me, but that place remains familiar. When I stand there, sometimes I remember the person I was at another time and the things I used to dream about.
Maybe that is why I call it the balcony of dreams. Not because I always go there thinking about big plans, but because it has been the place where so many thoughts have passed through my mind.
I don't always go there looking for an answer. Sometimes I just sit down, feel the breeze and watch the sky. And sometimes, that is exactly what I need.
Do you have a corner that has been part of different stages of your life? What memories come back when you return there?

Lo he visto muchas veces y todavía disfruto detenerme a mirarlo.
