The scientific name of this flower is Clitoria ternatea and I hate to say this that the genus "Clitoria" actually came due to the resemblance of this flower shape with that of female reproductive organ- clitoris. Other common name for this flower is Asian pigeonwing, blue pea and so on. This ornamental flower is easy to grow and can make your garden looks very exotic especially with its vibrant blue-white color.
The flower also closely matches with another flower called "Morning Glory Flower". Especially in case of India, this flower has a great significance in traditional ceremonies and rituals like in Viajaya Dashami this flower is offered to Goddess Durga. In Thailand as well, there is a tradition of serving blue tea made from this flower. It tastes similar to like that of herbal tea.
