alternatetext

The 1982 American comedy film, Night Shift, is about a timid night-shift morgue employee whose life is turned upside down by a new co-worker who fancies himself a free-spirited entrepreneur.

Charles "Chuck" Lumley (Henry Winkler) is a mild-mannered morgue attendant who has found a refuge from the ulcer-inducing Wall Street rat race in his job. His displeasure at being "promoted" to night-shift supervisor to make room for his boss' nephew, Leonard, is exacerbated by the irrational exuberance of Bill "Blaze" Blazejowski (Michael Keaton), his new co-worker.

Blaze is always looking for a quick buck, and when he finds out that Chuck's prostitute neighbor, Belinda (Shelley Long), needs a place to do her work, he convinces Chuck to turn the morgue into a brothel where they can work as her pimps. At first, Chuck is reluctant, but the prospect of easy money is tempting, and he eventually agrees to Blaze's plan.

The three of them quickly learn that running a brothel is not as easy as it seems. They have to deal with difficult customers, jealous competitors, and the occasional dead body. But they also make a lot of money, and Chuck and Blaze start to enjoy their new lifestyle.

However, their success is short-lived when they attract the attention of the police. Chuck and Blaze are arrested, but Belinda manages to escape. In the end, Chuck is sentenced to probation, and Blaze is sentenced to jail. But Chuck has learned a valuable lesson about life and friendship, and he is ready to start fresh.

Night Shift is a funny and heartwarming film that explores the themes of friendship, entrepreneurship, and the meaning of life. It is also a reminder that even the most unlikely of friends can find common ground and support each other through thick and thin.
