CoinDesk 20 Index Gains 52.7% in Crypto's Strongest Quarter of 2026
Plus: Strategy Buybacks Drive STRC Volume, Project Eleven Taps Quantus for Custody
Good Morning Lions,
Crypto beat stocks and gold last quarter, and it wasn't close. BUT, a big chunk of the trading in Strategy's preferred shares came from Strategy itself, which tells me some of this liquidity is homemade. The quieter wins today are custody upgrades on the XRP Ledger and in post-quantum key management.. the stuff that keeps institutions around after a hot quarter cools off.
CoinDesk 20 Outruns Stocks and Gold
TL;DR: Digital assets posted their strongest quarter of 2026 in Q3, according to CoinDesk Research, with the CoinDesk 20 index up 52.7% and bitcoin up 42.7%. Both gains came in far ahead of the S&P 500, the Nasdaq and gold over the same quarter.
Strategy Buybacks Drive STRC Volume
TL;DR: Strategy's repurchases of its STRC preferred shares made up more than 20% of weekly STRC trading volume in almost every week of September. The finding comes from a Keyrock research report cited by CryptoSlate.
Project Eleven Taps Quantus for Custody
TL;DR: Project Eleven and Quantus plan to integrate Quantus with Project Eleven's custody platform, with a target date of Q1 2027. The plan comes as custodians weigh whether their key management systems can cope with varying quantum-resistant standards.
XRP Ledger Activates Permission Delegation
TL;DR: The XRP Ledger switched on PermissionDelegationV1_1 on Oct. 8, CoinDesk reported. The feature lets account owners give helper accounts specific powers while their controlling keys stay offline.
Binance Restricts Services in Brazil
TL;DR: Binance will halt trading in 22 tokens and restrict eight products for Brazilian users starting Oct. 27, U.Today reported. The restricted products include Binance Loans and margin trading. Customers outside Brazil are not affected.
Coinbase Streams Singapore Trading Cup
TL;DR: Coinbase streamed a 10-trader perpetual-futures contest from Singapore on Oct. 8 with a $150,000 prize. Its event page listed a trader called Intern in first place with $4,263.37 in P&L. CryptoSlate did not report a confirmed winner.
Cardano Foundation Spins Out Veridian
TL;DR: The Cardano Foundation said it spun out its digital-identity project Veridian as an independent Swiss company. It also tokenized Veridian's shares using CIP-0113, Cardano's new programmable-token standard.
Here's the open Q4 question. If Strategy slows its STRC buybacks, does outside demand replace a fifth of that weekly volume? If it doesn't, frens, the preferreds were leaning on their own issuer 🦁 — Khal
