How to Maximize Your Winnings in the WILD FORMAT? [EN-ES]
Cover created in Canva
The Wild Format was for a long time the only format in the game, since players could use all the cards in the game; however, over time this changed until the “Modern Format” was introduced. Nevertheless, the game’s current economic model—which has been in place since these formats were created—stipulates that only the two most recent expansions can be played in the “Modern Format” and where neither bots nor battle assistants can be used. In Wild Format, however, things work completely differently: bots and battle assistants are allowed, many more battles are played, and as a result, the prize pool is distributed among many more players.
I really don’t like this, but I can’t do anything but adapt. The reasons why it’s so difficult to turn a profit in Wild Format are complex, However, there are ways to turn a profit—but we need to be quite consistent in what we do, in our gameplay, and in how we approach it. Because yes, it might be a little less competitive, but it’s possible—especially if you’re old-school like me and still have old cards in your deck. Even if you don’t have those cards, you can save quite a bit by following the steps I’ll outline in this post.
So, if you want to know how to turn a profit in “Wild Format,” you’ll need to read this post all the way through, because you’re probably playing in “Wild Format” and are frustrated that you’re not making any money.
The Economic Barriers of the “WILD FORMAT”: Why Is It More Demanding Than the Modern Format?
As I explained in the introduction, playing in “WILD FORMAT” involves additional costs that, while they do help in some ways prevent hundreds or thousands of accounts from spamming the game with tokens, I believe could be addressed in other ways to avoid that issue. However, as I said, there’s nothing we can do about it, and we have to adapt because—even though it’s more complicated—it is possible. The main obstacles of this format are as follows:
Main Problems with the "Wild Format"
The Wild Pass: To play freely in this format, you need to pay about 2,000 DECS per season, which means you’ll already be spending 4,000 DECS per month. This is an expense you’ll need to factor in as you earn tokens while playing—I’m referring to SPS and GLINT.
SPS in staking doesn't carry the same weight: I don’t like this either, but it’s more of the same. Basically, if you want to generate nearly the same amount you can earn in “Modern Format,” you need to have at least 50% more SPS in staking, which of course is also an expense—since if you want to match those earnings, you have to buy more SPS, and if you were to rent it, the DEC cost is lower but still increases. Although buying it isn’t an expense because it helps you, it can be complicated when you’re just starting out, so people usually rent it instead.
IMPORTANT: All of this means you need more resources in WILD than in MODERN, but there are ways to focus on WILD to get the most out of the game even with these costs. After all, even though you can play MODERN for free, we all want to win more—so the best option is to play both WILD and MODERN and win in both. But keep reading because I’ll explain how to be profitable and what you need to focus on.
How do you make a PROFIT in WILD FORMAT?
This is where it gets interesting because I’m going to show you how to turn a profit and what you should focus on. That said, your accounting and record-keeping here need to be much more rigorous than in MODERNO, for the simple reason that we have more associated expenses. And even though the steps I’m about to describe might sound a bit cliché, the reality is that this is exactly what I’ve done myself, but let’s go through the step-by-step process—it’s really nothing out of this world, because it’s quite simple.
Step 1: Calculate and Exceed the Wild Pass Threshold
To calculate this, we need to know—or at least estimate—the number of wins we could get in “Wild Format.” I know this sounds a bit complicated, but it’s not, and you’ll see why—since the goal is to earn at least what it cost us to qualify, which is 2,000 DECS. To achieve this, we need to keep the following in mind:
GLINT Returns: When you win battles, you not only earn SPS but also GLINT, which is a key factor in our profitability—since, depending on how much we earn, we can estimate approximately how much our profit will be. Of course, these tokens aren't transferable, but you can spend them on reward cards in the store.
SPS Return: Each victory you earn grants you SPS, which depends on the amount of SPS you have staked and increases the RSHARE reward multiplier.
The Recovery Strategy: If we win an average of 15 battles per day throughout the season—which would amount to roughly 214 victories over 14 days—the SPS and GLINT we accumulate during that time will far exceed the 2,000 DECS cost of the Wild Pass.
IMPORTANT: Something else that helps us cover that expense and stay profitable is what we earn from SPS staking, which—at the time of writing this post—has an APR of about 8.81%. We can easily count this as our earnings for the season, not to mention that SPS also generates VOUCHERS for us, which we can add to that total as well—helping us cover the seasonal cost of the Wild Pass. But BEWARE: this only applies if you own your own SPS; if it’s rented, you can’t count this as income.
Taking Advantage of LOW RENTAL COSTS
The cost of renting cards in the game for the Wild Format is extremely low, so if you're someone who starts out with nothing, you can go to the rental market and rent hundreds of cards for just a few DECS. So, even though this is an expense on top of the cost of the Wild Pass and possibly renting SPS, you can still turn a profit—the key is the strategy mentioned earlier, which is to win at least 15 battles a day.
Final Thoughts
I know many of you don’t like the WILD FORMAT because of what’s been done to it over the years, but even though it’s much more complicated and doesn’t really encourage competition, we can still be profitable in it if we know what we’re doing—though, of course, we shouldn’t go overboard renting cards or spending a ton on SPS, especially if we’re not very good at the game yet and are just looking to win. So, the process is to learn, master the rules and skills, rent whatever you need—whether cards or SPS—buy the Wild Pass, and play.
Now, are you profitable in the Wild Format, or do you struggle with it?
NOTE: I intentionally left out "Step 1" because I have a lot more to say about this format, so you'll see it in future posts.
See you on the "Battlefield"
