Sisig is a one of the staple food here in the Philippines, it is usually made from pigs face, ears, belly and chicken liver and usually it is present on the table spcially during a drinking session with family or friends as a "pulutan" or a snack that accompanies the alcoholic drink.
But if you are a vegan or vegetarian, you dont necessarily have to miss the taste of sisig.. A year ago, i was introduced to this yoga studio and they also have a vegan/vegetarian restaurant just below the studio. At first i was reluctant to try their food as im not really a vegan nor a vegetarian and im not a big fan of vegetables, i probably only like squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and carrots, although i eat any kinds of fruits...
but then some of the student were talking about how good their tofu sisig is and recommended us to try it.. at first i was really hesitant coz first I DONT LIKE TOFU!! i remember when i was young and my mom would cook tofu and i will just shove it aside as i never really liked it... but i got curious so i ordered, and to my surprise i couldnt even really taste that it was tofu, IT WAS SOOO DELICIOUS that it instantly became one of my favourite food..
so to my vegan/vegetarian Filipino people out there, you dont have to miss or give up sisig, you can just simply recreate it and use tofu or other vegan meat substitute you like... or if your lazy and your in Dumaguete or Dauin in Negros Oriental, you can go check out anahaw as they have so many good and delicious vegan/vegetarian food ♥️
