Yesterday I posted on a hot air balloon ride from Cappadocia, which is on many people's travel bucket list. The other thing that people visit the region for is the spectacular rock formations and cave hotels and dwellings. People still live and make there business even today inside these caves and rocks that have been used for over a thousand years.

Even though Turkey is predominantly Muslim today it was one of the hot beds for early Christianity and where it helped to spread from as it was right on the silk road. This is very evident by the many churches and cathedrals that are carved right into the rocks with intricate paintings and symbolism on the walls.

Here is a collection of photographs from the region particularly Göreme which is the tourism hot spot. Many of the places I will mention here have the accent marks over the letters, for simplicity I will not be providing them from here on out.

The hills and town near the Gumusler monastery. This was much further south than the other sites and took about a half days drive. It is probably about 150 km from the Syrian border and this was during the height of the ISIS conflict. I don't know if it was related or not but the hills were alive with the sound of automatic gun fire.
