Greetings and blessings to all, I hope you are having a wonderful Weekend. This is my entry for WE116 - Weekend-Engagement concept.
This time our friend @galenkp provided us with several themes to develop and all focused precisely on the weekend. I liked all of them; however, I could only develop one and this is the one I show you below, taken from his publication.
The weekend stranger
You are asked to accommodate a homeless stranger for a weekend to house, feed and entertain. Would you do it, and if so, what does your weekend look like and why?
My godfather Gustavo, often comes on a trip and brings with him several young people who train athletics, we have years seeing how always come athletes of this discipline, some of them we know from long ago, others are new players.
They arrive next to my mom's house and even though some of them are new, we get to know each other quickly, even though they are young and I am a long time older than them, heh, heh, heh.
This time, my godfather brought with him a strange young man, not only for me, but for him and for everyone. It turns out that when they were on their way here, they found him on the road, he looked malnourished and it was obvious that he was not having a good time. He asked my godfather to please give him food.
He, who has a big heart, could not refuse, picked him up and brought him with the whole group of athletes. When we arrived at his sister's house, our neighbor, she was sick and that weekend, they had a competition at the sports center. They would be very busy and his sister could not attend to that stranger.
The young man was very cheerful, talkative and had a good vibe, despite his appearance that was not at all graceful, with his arms bent and a sadness in his eyes, he told us how he has had to live in the street, these last days.
My godfather asked us if we could take care of him and feed him, that he would support us in any way he could. Early Saturday morning we went to the beach, prepared a quick breakfast, which that stranger ate with such gusto and joy that we were all so excited to see him so animated.
We took some canned tuna, tomato, onion, lemon and a lot of cassava for lunch, and then we completed it with a seafood soup that they sell delicious. We played in the sand making castles as if we were all children.
The stranger was the guest of honor of the day, we told my godfather that we were going to treat him like one of the family, he ate and bathed more than enough, he took off several layers of dirt, he was like new, he even looked white.
He told us that he wished that his brothers had found good people who would lend him a hand. He was happy, he did not want to come from the beach, since he had never been there in his life, he lived at the top of a mountain, where they did not even have electricity.
When we returned home, we all took out the salt water and another neighbor had some clothes for him to donate, the stranger thanked God for so many favors received. After preparing dinner, we sat outside talking, the one with the jokes and stories on the way was the stranger, we all laughed out loud.
We planned for Sunday to make a cake, since he told us that he had been years without a birthday and although his birthday had already passed, we were going to collaborate to make a small sharing, we made cake, mango candy and some meat and cheese empanadas, a delight every bite.
It was a sharing in his honor and for the joy of all, and being Sunday night the athletes, after the championship, although tired, some with victories and others with defeats, joined us and joined us to tell their stories about the competition and we to update them on how we did with the stranger.
It was really a pleasure to give a little joy to this young man, who although he told us some things about the hardships he has gone through, he has also lived happily with the little he has had at home; however, he had some problems in the field and was adrift, without a roof over his head, or anything to eat. He wanted to get ahead and earn his food with his efforts.
My godfather took him to his village, so he can recover and work in the fields to earn his daily bread, then he will go back to his home to be with his loved ones.
We don't know when we are going to need a friend, it is not good to judge at first by appearances, I know what it is like to have nothing to eat and the stomach's guts talk to you asking for bread. So I was very happy to be part of this group of people (my family and neighbors) that made this weekend, something special for this stranger, now friend.
