Motherhood has a way of exhausting you in ways you never expect. It’s like one minute, you're finally catching a break, only for something else to pop up and throw you off course. That’s exactly what happened to me yesterday. I had just managed to calm my little princess down after her drama, and just as I was breathing a sigh of relief, her brother decided it was his turn to have his moment.
For the past two days, my son had been complaining of pain in his mouth, so I did what any parent would do, I gave him pain relief and rushed to the pharmacy to pick up some riboflavin after it was recommended. We went through an entire sachet, hoping it would help, but the situation only seemed to get worse. That night, I was up the whole time, barely able to sleep, as he ran a fever that wouldn’t break.
Despite taking paracetamol and antibiotics as directed, his fever stayed stubbornly high, and I felt completely helpless. By the time morning rolled around, I was beyond exhausted, and I decided I had no choice but to call my mom for advice. She has always been my go-to source of wisdom when it comes to remedies, and she didn't disappoint.
She told me something I wasn’t expecting: “Go find a plant called the scorpion tail leaf (heliotropium indicium), and put a pinch of salt in it. Give it to him, and you’ll see the fever go down.” I was skeptical, to say the least. But in a moment of desperation, I decided to give it a try. Off I went, searching for this plant, which I’d never heard of before, and found it fairly quickly. I followed her instructions to the letter, gave it to my son, and waited.
Within moments, his fever started to drop, and he began acting like himself again, full of energy as if nothing had ever happened. It was as if this simple remedy was just waiting for him, as if the fever had been waiting for the right antidote to work. I was amazed. How could something so simple work when all the medications and hospital visits didn’t seem to make a dent?
It left me reflecting on just how much we stress ourselves out as parents, especially when we feel like we’ve tried everything and still see no results. Sometimes, the simplest things, like nature’s remedies, hold the answers we’ve been looking for. The amount of time, money, and energy I spent on hospital visits, prescriptions, and sleepless nights suddenly felt like it was all for nothing. Yet, in the end, it was this humble plant that brought my son back to health. It’s a reminder that sometimes, less really is more, and we don’t always need to turn to the most complex solutions when nature often has the answers right in front of us.
Motherhood truly has a way of humbling you. We go through these experiences, full of stress and worry, but in the end, it’s moments like this that teach us to trust our instincts and appreciate the simple things in life.
Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
