We passed by a former Filipino-Chinese Hospital and wanted to see what it had become. It was repurposed to a business establishment. It had a lot of cafes now.
We tried Beans & Mugs. I have been seeing posts about this on my facebook feed. We had a quick peek of the other cafes but will come back to those later on.
The place caters to a few clients as they only have about five tables but still enough room to move about and be comfortable. The place was simply decorated. This is next to the road and they made a good decision by installing glass windows/walls that were facing the road. It gives the illusion of a wider and bigger space and brighter ambiance.
I ordered their Matcha Overload. I was craving for cakes but they don't have that so I settled for this shake. It was an overload indeed. It is overflowing with ice cream. Wafers of choco and green tea flavors and green tea Pocky sticks are sticking out. It was sprinkled with green sprinkles and on top of that is chocolate syrup amply topped and also mixed to the shake. It is in a mason jar which is now a popular mug being used these days.
Taste wise, it is not something to be freaked about but for its price, it is okay. After the ice cream and all the other toppings are gone, the shake itself is okay. There is a taste of a mix of sugar and water. I guess it is best if the ice cream is mixed with it but even the ice cream is not of top quality. Again, in overall, it is okay. I have tasted worse.
Aside from that, we also tried their burgers since my partner is not up for something sweet.
I ordered a double burger. The burger is general in taste. The cheese is of the cheaper kind. It was not melted into the burger. It breaks and lacks that cheesy taste. The bread is good because it is soft and compact. Everything else is okay. Veggies are fresh which is good.
The burger comes with potato chips that is greasy but crispy. It is not that bad but it needs a lot of improvement.
All in all, I think they cater for students. The area is near universities and it is a students' neighborhood because it is crowded with apartments. On that line of thought, I think they used affordable products in their menu. Serving is sufficient and presentation are not an issue. Quality is not that best but can still beat a lot of competitors. I would not scratch this off my list but suffice it to say that I will keep it at the lower end of my list. There are still a lot in their menu I am willing to try.
