Breakfast in Vienna at our hotel was a great way to start day two of our trip in Austria. This was the morning that we went to Hallstatt if you happen to be following along.
We woke up early that day and headed up to the rooftop of our hotel for a nice buffet style breakfast.
The set-up there was much nicer than what we were used to at hotels and happened to be the nicest breakest of any of the places that we stayed during our week in Austria.
The food being served was actually about the same as any of the other places.
There were the usuals, like cereal, yogurt, breads and pastries and jams, eggs, beans, bacon and vegetables...etc.
Everything was just showcased in a little nicer way though, which gave it a more elevated feel to it. The set-up made it more memorable really, because it felt like fine dining.
They also had a menu that you could order more specialty dishes from like omelets and eggs Benedict and things like that.
In general we found the coffee in Austria to be very good and the ones being served here were no exception. Our table got cappuccinos and lattes and maybe a flat white.
We are typical North Americans in that we generally have two coffees in the morning, especially since European coffees tend to be on the smaller size. Something a little funny was that the second round of cappuccinos always came to the table a little faster and a lot less fancy.
That's not a complaint at all, I totally get that and agree with it. The first coffee is like "oooo look how good it looks. I'm going to savor this!" and the second cup is like "Okay, we got a busy day ahead of us, pound that coffee back so we can get the hell out of here!" I'm sure that the barista is thinking the same thing. They're like "okay I put the effort into making you a fern leaf earlier, but now I'm busy with coffee orders coming every 30 seconds. Ain't no-one got time for no coffee art for a second cup!"
The setting was very nice as well and the views of the city up there on the rooftop were pretty incredible.
Breakfast in Salzburg was next on day three and four of our trip. The buffet breakfast was good but was a little more simple than the previous one. I didn't take a photo of it because it was a little more busy in there and wasn't as nice anyway. The food was still quite good though.
The coffees were excellent of course and served in much the same way as the previous hotel. Understandably, the second cup was always a little less fancy. The latte that my wife got was served in a tall glass, which made it seem fancy.
What stood out the most in Salzburg was the setting. The dining area was on the rooftop again and overlooked the oldtown.
The views of the city were really spectacular there, even better than in Vienna.
We stayed in Salzburg for two nights and had breakfast at the hotel both mornings. The sky was a little cloudy in the morning both days but it didn't detract from the views at all and the skies cleared as the day progressed.
Having a good breakfast and a nice cup of coffee in the morning were a great way to start each day of our trip.
