It was during my physiotherapy in Bad Gastein that I was able to have a free day from physical activities, so I took the chance to visit the city of Salzburg, even for just a short time. I had a free pass that came with my accommodation during my therapy; it was a free ticket or pass that would bring me to any place within Salzburg. I took the train from Bad Gastein, traveling for an hour. Salzburg is one of Austria´s most beautiful and historic cities, and since I hadn´t been there, I had been quick and decided to visit the most important and popular attractions.
One highlight of my visit was the popular Mirabell Gardens. I was fascinated by their beautiful flowers, the way the fountains were installed, as well as the placement of the statues. From a distance, I saw the Hohensalzburg Fortress while taking a rest on one of the banks in the garden. The garden was a lovely place to walk around, taking photos of its various areas. Hohensalzburg Fortress is a medieval castle dating back to the 11th-century. It is one of the largest and best-preserved fortresses in Europe, and according to history, it was never invaded by enemies.
The Fortress was actually my most important place to visit since I got fascinated by its feature on top of a cliff, photos of which I´ve seen on the internet. To go there, I took the funicular to reach the top. Once on top of the fortress, one could see the whole city.
The Old Town / Altstadt
I also enjoyed exploring Salzburg´s old town; like other old cities in Austria, the buildings were constructed in the traditional architecture of that period, which gives a special flair that combines history and culture. The streets in the old town are narrow, but they contribute charm, seeing the botiques and shops lined up side by side while passers-by do window shopping. I have seen shops that sell christmas decors the whole year round.
Even though I only stayed for a short time, the visit gave me a chance to experience some of Salzburg’s most famous sights and create memorable moments. Overall, my short trip to Salzburg was enjoyable and unforgettable. I would love to return one day and explore more of this beautiful city.
