We haven't had much snow fall this year at all. Just a few days and only for very brief periods of time. It always pretty much melted by the second day, on each occasions. On one of the days just a little while ago I woke up to everything being completely covered in the fluffy white stuff.
It was particularly pretty looking first thing in the morning before the sun had fully come up for the day. I took some pictures of it off my balcony before sitting to enjoy my coffee.
A little later in the day we decided to take the dog for a walk. He seems to like walking less and less as the years go by. Nonetheless we push him to go once in a while, for his physical and mental health. He isn't too old for it, though he sometimes pretends. I know this because he races around the house, running full tilt, like a madman as soon as we get back inside.
So anyway, on this particular day we decided to put on his new boots for the first time and head outside. He did the patented - dog in water flippers routine, acting like he was suddenly learning to use his legs and feet for the first time ever.
We also put on his winter coat which seemed just a tad bit more snug on him this year.
We took him outside and after about 10 yards he all but stopped moving forward altogether. He wouldn't budge at all and we didn't want to drag him so we took off the boots and tried it that way. He walked a few more steps but then did the same thing. I think it was the combination of the slightly too small jacket and the strange boots that made him like "yeah fuck this, I'm not going no place." So back inside we went. But tricksy us, we didn't allow him to get away with it that easy. The joke was on him, as they say.
We decided that he would still go for a walk but this time he'd go in his backpack. So we bundled him up again and then left for round two. It wasn't very cold out and he looked pretty content back there while we walked. He generally enjoys his backpack and likes to look around from the safety of above.
He was in the backpack and we could go at our own pace so we made the most of it and went for a decent amount of time and distance. We went for about an hour before returning home. We even took him out for the last 7 minutes or so and made him walk the rest of the way home.
He generally tends to have a lot more confidence if he knows that we are heading back to basecamps so with a new found "pep in his step" he lead the way back to our front door. Once inside he did the race around the basement routine until he had completely tired himself out. It was a pretty good time all around I'd say. I was happy that we experienced the snow and made the most of it and that the dog got some fresh air. Who knows how much more snow we will get this year. I guess it's better to enjoy it while we can.
