Welcome to my Weekly Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Hi Splinters, I'm Lagnarok, and back again to post and share my battle here. In this Social Media Challenge, I found a great battle and looked at how I made it become a perfect defense with only 14 mana caps.
Ilthain Synopsis
Pledged into service by the Silver Shield, Ilthain was a warrior trained in martial arts. She spent her days working in communities and helping those less fortunate. At night, however, she acted on behalf of the Silver Shield to rid the land of the corrupt, using her unique abilities to bring peace to Khymeria by purging it of its lawless rebels. She became so well known among the people that when she passed on, thousands of mourners followed her body as it was carried to the Peace of Light Monastery and entombed within a grand mausoleum. Following many supplications from the people, Ilthain was eventually named a saint on the first anniversary of her death. There was much rejoicing. Every year, celebrations were held to honor and remember her deeds—that is, until the Chaos Legion invaded. Read More.
The Perfect Defence with Life Splinter
This battle happened in Silver League Modern Format in a Ranked match. The match detail is Briar Patch (A.K.A Thorns) Ruleset with 14 mana caps and splinters options Water, Life, Death, and Dragon. At first, I wanted to use Magic-type monsters, but after re-think, I decided to do a little experiment: Ilthain a Life Splinter Summoner.
Ilthian is Epic Summoner for Life Splinter, which came from Riftwatcher Expansion packs with +1 Speed and Returns Fire ability.

With 4 Splinters options, Water, Life, Death, and Dragon, I decide to use Life Splinter over Death which consists of Low Mana Range-Type Monsters and Low Mana Melee-Type and Range for Water Splinter, as for Dragon splinter. It's pretty impossible since Dragon Monsters average comes with Higher mana than the other splinter.
Preparation and Strategy Briefing
| Post | Card | Ability | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summoner | +1 speed, Return Fire | Ilthian is Riftwatcher Epis Summoner for Life Splinter. This Summoner is almost perfect since it gives +1 Speed buff and Returns Fire ability which will give monsters the ability to reflect any Ranged-Type attack to the dealer. I decided to use this because I want to make a Perfect Defence with Briar Patch Ruleset combined with Return Fire ability will make the enemy's monsters get away easily without getting hurt. | |
| Main Tank | Flying, Magic Reflection | With 14 Mana caps, Briar patch ruleset, and Returns Fire buff, this Pelacor Conjurer is the best option. The enemy will be distressed and not imagine I will set a perfect defense, hurting their monsters with any attack, be it magic, ranged, or melee. | |
| Second | Protect | With this Untamed Rare Monster, I add another layer of protection for my monsters which is Truth Speaker with her Protect ability will give all my monsters another +2 armor, and with this, my monsters will live little longer. | |
| Third | Tank Heal | This rare reward monster will heal my Pelacor Conjurer and prevent it from dying very fast, and it can shoot an arrow at the enemy tank from far away. | |
| Fourth | No Ability | Since the rule is Briar Patch, it is best not to use any melee attack. The best choice is to use magic or range-type monsters. This Lensmaster is a range-type monster with one mana to consume, one range damage, and decent speed is the best choice since there are only a handful of monsters with Return Fire Ability, and nearly impossible to meet them in a Low mana cap. | |
| Fifth | No Ability | With Lensmaster, the allocated mana caps are already consumed, and the last monster is Soul Fiend. I decided to put this monster on the back because this will be perfect cannon fodder for Sneak or Opportunity monsters. |
With this, my battle preparation for this time Splinterlands Social Media Challenge is complete.
Round 1: The Beginning
- After the series of buff and debuff from both contenders, the battle began with Enemy's Naga Assasin and targeted my Pelacor Conjurer. While the range attack damaged my Armor but it returned to Naga Assasin.
- Follow Naga Assasin, Life Sapper target Pelacor Conjurer again and leeched one extra HP, and after that, the Magic attack reflected and hit Life Sapper.
- Lensmaster hit the enemy main tank Carrion Shade, and it nearly died with only 1 HP left, he didn't want to miss the chance, and Soul Strangler tried to kill Pelacor Conjurer. Still, it was only able to clean its Armor, but the ranged attack and returned it back to the Soul Strangler. As a result, it dead.
- Venari Crystalsmtih started to heal Pelacor Conjurer and didn't want to give Enemy's Tank a chance. Venari killed it, and this is the end of round 1.
Round 2
- Since Enemy has no tank, Chaos Agent steps down and becomes a Volunteer tank.
- Naga Assasin and Life Sapper tries to kill Pelacor Conjurer again, but fortunately, Pelacor can handle it. In return, Lensmaster and Venari Crystalsmith tried to kill the enemy's Chaos again but missed the chance, End of Round 2.
Round 3
- Naga Assasin lost its cool and furiously attacked Pelacor Conjurer but missed the target. Life Sapper followed and dealt a Magic-type attack to Pelacor but reflected it back to Life Sapper again.
- After healing, Pelacor Conjurer, Venari Crystal Smith, and Lensmaster join hands in result killed Chaos Agent with ease.
- After Chaos Agent died, Corpse Fiend became enemy Tank. Corpse Fiend attacked Pelacor Conjurer but died because Briar Patch ruleset.
Round 4 - 6: Final
- Round 4 was started by Naga Assasin, who tried to kill Pelacor but failed again, and Life Sapper dealt Magic damage to it but returned by Magic Reflect.
- Lensmaster and Venari Crystalsmith kill life Sapper, and Naga Assasin is left behind since it can't perform any action. It dies later, and this is the end of the battle.
Did my Strategy Work?
Yes, I was working perfectly. My little experiment was a success. Usually, I will use Lorna Shine, but since I got a new Summoner, Ilthain, I decided to use it. This Strategy was successful because, within Low mana caps, Only Ilthian can return ranged attacks. At the same time, some monsters can reflect the magic, that consideration for me why I chose Ilthain instead of Lorna Shine.
