Yeah poverty is rampant in Canada but no one talks about it, depends where you live too. Canada is big. I left the east a long time ago because there was no prospect. Most of my generation is gone, one in 3 resident is a tax dependent and not a contributor (children, elderly, disabled, injured... and they are expecting that to get worse so places like that have much higher taxes as well in the form of provincial tax. Cost of living is much lower so it's easier to survive there on gov assistance if need be.

Where I live you see the wage gaps, we do have the highest minimum wage in Canada but life overall is very expensive here because of the oil money so those without much means really suffer. They are converting public convention buildings into makeshift shelters but there are certain rules and people don't want to go their because either they fear for their safety or they do not want to quit drugs and alcohol to be able to stay there. For those who refuse to go in, they leave the underground train stations open overnight on the really cold days so they can shelter. There are tent cities here and there that are being evicted from downtown lands especially after the oil bust and an anti Alberta generational beef that our prime minister has (we are the defiant province that believe we should live free in a republic.

2 major cities in Canada can sway an entire election so there isn't fair representation for the rest of Canada outside of Montreal or Toronto because of the way the territory and delegates are divided, they represent a disproportional amount of citizens. (like 110,000 pop per mp in those 2 cities and 135,000 pop per mp everywhere else) so it is like a fucking dictatorship disguised as a democracy. Corrupt as F too with 3 officials ethics violations but somehow keeps getting re-elected yet he can't even get the popular vote. They are setting up "border jumpers" (people that cross illigaly thru the woods rather than proper entry points)in 4 stars hotels meanwhile they will pay millions in legal fees each to not have to pay for a teenage girl's life saving surgery or a new prosthetic for a veteran that lost a limb in combat or mental health services for ptsd..."it's more than we can give" he says yet pays out millions to a former gitmo prisoner. Check out the Omar Kadhr story. He sends billions in suspicious foreign aid to the middle east while our northern Indian reservations go without clean drinking water or proper roads to connect to near-by cities. Deemed ineligible to bid on foreign gov contracts is the most corrupt company in the world, SNC Lavalin, read up un that...big scandal including manipulation of the legal system, all budy ol pals, also runs with the same bronfmans from that nxivm cult (relatives with snc execs and such cousins I think). People of the world see Canada as a great place to be which I'm sure it is in some aspects but we have quite a few skeletons in our closets. It's more corrupt here than the US.
