Well, with my pension i have a pension and I don't get to chose where it gets invested because it's a group thing and that's in the stock market, so if I already think that's dodgy and have more there than I would like, then why put more? Insanity! I'm sure many a much worse off than cad but like you pointed out, the higher you are the harder you fall. I was glad to have my other retirement savings I can control in pm's, that seems to have done well.
I don't buy crypto but I have no problem earning them and just hodl my earnings, I figure that's already more than what the majority of persons in the rest of the world have so realistically, slowly chipping away at it is my strategy with the safety of knowing I have a bit of a savings account elsewhere in case things really go bad even if the price never goes up. It's something easy to carry if having to leave home in a hurry because of natural disaster or whatever else. Can't say I'm prepared for it all or it will work but at least I'm trying something.
I also think with automation and stuff is inevitable and we will have to rely on other creative abilities to earn as jobs gets replaced. Those who embrace the various crypto worlds have a stepping stone for when that time comes, hence those on hive establishing their base. Doesn't mean it will be a main source of income but who knows where it can lead as public publishing talent search and self publishing...etc... Human experiences is something technology can't replace yet!
You are correct about the government being bad into our pockets now. I pay so much and I live in the only tax heaven province of Canada where we don't have provincial tax, only federal. Thank goodness. Some places pay %15 sales tax on top of income, property, carbon, sin and whatever other hidden taxes. We have a running joke that they even tax the tax, the sad part, it's not really a joke.
