Alright, being in a romantic relationship is not exactly the same as playing a game, but let’s allow ourselves to use that analogy. After all, in sports, the principles of fair play and justice are fundamental requirements for the spirit of competition.

Now, if someone had the extraordinary gift or superpower of reading minds, they would be playing with an immeasurable advantage—or, to put it bluntly, they would be cheating.

Because in that case, who could guarantee that the love they inspire is genuine and authentic? By knowing every thought, every desire, every dream, every passion, as well as the frustrations and quirks of the person they are interested in romantically, they could play the perfect game—no unforced errors—because they would know exactly how to conquer their partner, being aware of every aspect of their life and acting accordingly, with far better chances than those who do not have that advantage.

Knowledge is power, and knowing everything about everyone places that person in a position of absolute superiority over the rest of humankind. They could be the perfect person in all their important relationships—whether with a partner, a boss, a mentor, a professor—leaving others without a fair chance, despite their best efforts.

As for the person being "betrayed"—because, technically, possessing this ability and keeping it secret is a form of betrayal, especially within a relationship that is supposed to be built on trust—I believe they would lose all confidence in their partner. They would never truly know what was authentic and what was mere strategy within the relationship.

Now, responding to the questions posed for the #HiveLearners community in episode #w162e2, let’s see how I would react if I found myself in this paradoxical situation!

What would you do if you discovered that your partner can read minds but never told you? This would mean they always knew everything—your white lies, your dirty secrets you weren’t ready to reveal…

I think I would feel betrayed and disappointed because I’m not someone who hides things or lies deliberately. If my partner wanted to know something, all they had to do was ask. I would also struggle to believe that the person I thought I knew was truly themselves, since they could have been acting based on the information they secretly gained from reading minds.

What would it mean for the relationship when, essentially, you are an open book to them? Would it be a broken deal?

I believe the relationship would inevitably suffer a rupture, although I wouldn’t know whether it would be definitive or not. It would be an extremely complex situation, requiring significant time and effort to mend.

If you knew from the beginning that they could read minds, would you have entered into a relationship with them?

I probably would never enter a romantic relationship with someone who could read my mind. If I had known, it’s likely that I would avoid any kind of relationship with someone who could literally peer into my thoughts.

This could also explain why someone with this ability would choose to keep it a secret. It would turn them into a person that everyone would want to avoid—someone unable to have friends or romantic relationships. Moreover, given their deep knowledge of others, they themselves might struggle to form strong bonds or deep emotions, as many people have a dark side—just like in the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
