Pandorum was one of those films I almost missed because I hold an inexplicable grudge against a certain actor. There are actors I simply refuse to watch, for no clear reason. Dennis Quaid is one of them.
Even so, I went ahead with the film, and its claustrophobic atmosphere brought back memories of Alien.
! [SPOILER] The plot unfolds inside a spaceship called Elysium, which immediately made me suspicious given the movie of the same name. Upon waking from hibernation, Bower, one of the ship's officers, finds himself on a ship with no crew, except for his lieutenant, who's still in stasis and is played by Dennis Quaid.
All we know is that something went very wrong aboard the ship, and that there's a danger beyond imagination — one that does get an explanation by the end.
! [SPOILER] The ship fell into collapse when one of the crew members, driven mad by a psychosis triggered by isolation in deep space, unleashed chaos and dragged others into that same madness. The ship, moreover, had been submerged for centuries without the survivors even knowing it.
The film made the point that human plans are fallible, and that unforgiving nature keeps running its course, sometimes for the worse.
I recommend it because, beyond keeping the suspense and horror at a well-balanced pace, it also hides a philosophical reflection on life, evolution, and human error.

Pandorum fue una de esas películas que casi me pierdo por tenerle manía a un actor. Inexplicablemente hay actores a los que no quiero ver. Y Dennis Quaid está en ese grupo.
Aún así seguí adelante con la película, el clima claustrofóbico de la misma me trajo a la memoria la película Alien, el octavo pasajero.
! [SPOILER] La trama transcurre dentro de una nave espacial llamada Elysium, lo cual me dio buena espina por la película homónima. Al despertar de la hibernación, Bower, uno de los oficiales, se encuentra con una nave sin tripulantes, salvo su teniente, que sigue en suspensión, y es interpretado por Dennis Quaid.
Sólo sabemos que las cosas en la nave salieron muy mal, y que hay un peligro que desafía toda imaginación pero que tiene una explicación al final.
! [SPOILER] La nave cayó en un colapso cuando uno de los tripulantes, enloquecido por una psicosis provocada por el aislamiento del espacio profundo, desató el caos y arrastró a otros a esa misma locura. La nave, además, había estado sumergida durante siglos sin que los sobrevivientes lo supieran.
La película demostró que los planes humanos son falibles y la naturaleza implacable sigue su curso, a veces para peor.
La recomiendo porque además de mantener el suspenso y el horror en justo ritmo, también esconde una reflexión filosófica sobre la vida, la evolución y los errores humanos.
