What the heck, I'm posting an excerpt from my draft of "Indifferent Deceptions". Let me know what you think, I'm a newbie.
ONLINE DATING:
"I reviewed the intricacies of setting up a profile, keeping in mind that this is a “normal” way to meet people. It seemed so impersonal and I imagined that humanity and empathy would soon deteriorate in society, like the fall of the Roman Empire. I considered myself average; I didn’t really fit into the other 4 categories. I am 5 foot 8 inches, which is towering for a woman, therefore eliminating a significant portion of the dating candidates. My hair is about 5 different colors mixed together to get the perfect high-lights and texture, and it’s always at the “drive me crazy” stage of growing it out. My eyes are an interesting shade of hazel with gold flecks, lending them a look of mystique; while my iris has been known to alter from green to blue to gray, depending on what I am wearing, and my mood.
Lastly, I am commandeered to upload my favorite photos of myself that would attract the male population. This is when you take numerous selfies and try to pick the one that portrays an exact replica of your true self; in essence, put on your make-up, a sexy shirt (or not), style your hair, and smile – and don’t forget the lipstick. Selfie protocol: you can leave the slippers and sweats on.
I have always been attracted to men with dark hair and visions of a tall handsome man with dark hair, bronzed skin, sensual lips, and lust-filled eyes invaded my thinking. I dearly missed laughing and cuddling, a strong shoulder to rest upon when I’m sad, and someone to drag along for couple’s outings. I was hoping to meet someone face-to-face, but obviously that wasn’t working out well for me. Let’s not forget about the dreamy fantasies about people finding the love of their life, I was skeptical, but I was sure I was qualified.
Addiction; the vice can be anything. I was hooked on the dating site and every day I rushed home and browsed the unending parade of male species, while fewer and fewer came up for my viewing pleasure as I repeatedly rejected them; sometimes with a shudder. I was doomed and I almost admitted that it was not my destiny to meet anyone who fulfilled my lonely heart. My head used to be filled with romantic notions; the hand-holding, the sensual kissing, the candlelight dinners. They were slowly disappearing.
I shied away from the men holding dead animals with blood stains (is that a Montana thing?). I can appreciate the instinct to kill, as long as is its not wasteful, and I have respect for a huntsman with a bow and arrow. A few men looked psychotic with googly eyes, or had black holes that begged “insert teeth here” and I always passed by the blank profile picture. I mean seriously, blank, what do you expect? I don’t mind an occasional man and fish picture, some of them are quite impressive. One man neglected to clear his nightstand of the dye, gloves, and plastic-tip bottle; which made it even more obvious that he had just darkened the color of his facial hair. A bit of advice, check out your background before posting your selfie for the awaiting community, especially on a public dating site. :)"
