[AI Art & Workflow] Creating "A-Xiu": Gritty Chinese Historical Realism with Local GPU & Cloud Tools

This is my very first post on the Hive blockchain. I am a creator from northern China. In my daily life, I work in the agricultural sector, and in my spare time, I am deeply passionate about endurance running and exploring local AI generation workflows.
Recently, I started developing an original AI short video concept called "100 Lives of Commoners" (百世草民). Instead of the typical glossy fantasy style, I wanted to capture gritty, raw Chinese historical realism—focusing on the tough lives of grassroots people across generations.
Today, I want to share the character design process of my protagonist, A-Xiu (阿秀), a 16-year-old peasant girl from a bleak northern village.
1. The Core Visual Concept & Bone Structure
To keep a character recognizable across multiple storyboards, facial consistency is the biggest headache. I gave A-Xiu three distinct markers to lock her identity down:
Sharp, chiseled bone structure with a narrow, high nose bridge (built for the harsh northern elements).
A numb yet fiercely resilient gaze.
A broken red ring-shaped birthmark on the back of her neck, acting as the visual anchor for her reincarnation arc.
2. Hardware & Workflow
I started out running everything locally on my Lenovo Legion laptop with an NVIDIA RTX 3070 GPU, leveraging Stable Diffusion WebUI and local tools.
Honestly, fighting endless ControlNet dependency issues and sudden VRAM crashes ate up way too much time that should've gone into storytelling. Lately, I've moved to a hybrid setup—using my baseline local portraits as anchors, then pushing them through cloud reference tools to nail cinematic lighting without losing her facial geometry.
The core prompt for this close-up:

3. Next Steps
My next milestone is turning these static frames into 5-second dynamic shots to piece together the pilot episode.
