@melisita02 y
@africapg.
Initiative #2 What do you have to share? An unforgettable experience (Esp-Eng)
Hello, hivers.
Responding to the call of our dear friend @marpasifico, I present myself before you to tell you about an experience I had recently. I extend the invitation to
@melisita02 y
@africapg.
Every morning when I wake up,I give thanks to life and the universe for another day. Another day to move forward with my dreams and my goals, in short, with my life's project. But I am also aware that it is one day less. And the thing is, life is as unpredictable as a box of surprises and can change in an instant, whether for better or for worse.
"You don't know what you've got until it's gone," and something I would never want to lose is my freedom. I believe that for me, losing my freedom would be worse than losing my life. Although on the other hand, I also know that where there's life, there's hope. All this philosophical preamble I woke up with today is because of an unforgettable experience I had the opportunity to live.
In Cuba, there is an educational program for people who are in prison (inmates). This program also includes bringing them part of our culture through activities that are held fairly regularly. Well, it turns out that since I am a Cultural Promoter, I recently found myself involved in one of those activities because I am part of the work team of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature of Artemisa.
When they told me we had to go to a Penitentiary Center, I admit I felt a certain unease and apprehension. But those who are there, regardless of what they have done, are people and have the right to cultivate their intellect, their spirituality, and their quality of life as much as possible. Furthermore, culture transforms thinking, and thinking, in turn, transforms behavior so they can have better reintegration into society as good people once they have served their sentence.
The activity itself consisted of taking a small donation of books, talking a bit about literature, reading poetry, and doing book reviews. My task was to talk about a book of stories titled "Mi reino por una pregunta" (My Kingdom for a Question) by the Cuban writer Alberto Rodríguez Tosca, who unfortunately passed away in 2015. There was music with a trovadora (female folk singer) and even oral storytelling. I imagine the inmates who were brought to the activity were the ones with the best behavior. 95 percent of them were young; I don't think they were over 30 years old.
