This is a long time issue that I believe will not be resolved because users are allowed to do whatever they want. It's their stake, but it leaves them defenseless from the hands of careful investors protecting this platform and their stake.
So when someone excessively votes himself (posts, comments, or alternate accounts) leading to abuse - a handful of users will try to attack you and probably you will suffer through the rest of the days.
I'd say it leaves an opening for others to attack you. Did it once before and it was pretty hard before finally realizing the kind of behavior was bad. So I'd say try to be generous with your votes and reward your audience. 馃榾
