One of the strengths of Hive blog is its proof-of-brain mechanism. We are rewarded by the content and value we bring to the platform may it be writing about life, development updates, travel posts, food recipes, or even your Hive/Tribe journey.

The strength of Hive as a community lies in the value each user brings to the platform. We always come back here to witness that unique feature, sharing what we always have in mind. It's not also about learning things, spending time with the community, and checking on development updates on what is happening on Hive, but also it can be an avenue to express yourself. Hive blog can be your diary, your friend during sad moments, your happy moments, or important happenings in your life. There's so much more Hive can offer, not just mention the investment side.

What makes Hive unique among others is that we are thriving. We've been into a similar situation before and I bet you already know what I am referring to - bid bots. The same concept, using the power of technology users (esp whales) just delegate to these bid bot accounts to maximize rewards (most bid bot services before provide around 90-95% of the rewards it receives over the 24-hr period. Before Economic Incentive Proposal was passed (EIP), the post-reward share was: 70% authors, and 30% curators.

We've battled with that and we successfully removed all bid bot services by:

  • Passing EIP, which gives 45% author, 45% curator, and 10% DAO split. Equal split on author and curation discourages the benefit of bid bot services.
  • Introduction of downvote power and the unity of the community to counter bid bot upvoted posts.

Bid bots were destructive, but AI is more

Creating artificial content creates a huge danger to the essence of the Hive blog. That's the brand of this platform, the authenticity, the genuineness, and the virtual community we have created. It will be removed once we see AI rule this blockchain.

How will you feel if the trending page will be filled with computer-generated / Artificial intelligence created like ChatGPT? You spent 2-4 hours creating your travel post but a 5-minute AI-created content has been consistently rewarded than yours?

AI creation makes people engage less. People will just come and go, post and go, upvote and go, and I see that the ecosystem will fall. We need to make sure these won't happen and taking important steps at this early stage will mitigate its future effects.

Individual, group and community policing is very important for this. Unless we can find a cheaper and more effective way of preventing these contents to appear on Hive, I think proof-of-brain is in danger. I guess the accounts funded to stop these kinds of activities on Hive really needs to step up, I'm not exactly sure how they are performing in the past months. If they've done well then that's great. If not, I think everyone will agree there has to be extra work done for this.
